Thers aro no streets to cross, and the ltves of peopls aro not continually endnngered by moying traine. Yel, owlng to the short- sightednees of our city authoritics, there {8 con- siderable danger that most of the ronds now coming in_that way will be driven to scek un entrance eleewhere becausa they cannot sceure sufMiclent depot and yard room, It is now two years sinco the Naltimore & Ohlo Rauflrond camo into this city, but up to tho prosent time it has beon unable to sccure depot accommoria- tions. When the mauagers of the road decided to enter the clty by the Lake-Front, they were tolerab)y certain that tho city would sell to the rallroads the two blacks between Randolph and Madison streets for the purpose of having n grand unfon depot erected thereon. The I11l- mfis Contral Rallroad had agreed to let it nve the uso of its present temporary depot uutl that time. But the Iilinois Central wus unuble to carry out its agreement because the Michigan Central Raflrond, which 18 purt owner of the present dopot, objected to tho arrangemnent, clafining that the depol was too crowded, und there was no {olling how Jong it would take be- fore a now aud comnodlous depot could be erected, and the Baltimore & Ohio was left out in the cold. By leastug the Mechanical Depart- nent of the Expusition Bullding at an exorbl- tant rate, the rond secured a temporary depot, but every fall when the Exposition conimenced t was turned out, and lad to pet along the best it coull. In thisdllemnina the Baldmore & Ohio Rallrond has come to the concluslon that it will serve its interests botter by leaving the Lake- Frout, cntering the ity on the West Side, and buliding o depot in conjunc- tlon” with the Northwestern Railroad, either ut the corner of Canal und Kinzie streets or at the corner of Wells and Kinzie strects on the North 8ide, The Balthuore & Ollo Ralirond can casily make the change without building more than s few miles of rond, Tuero i8 o roud now buillt which runs from South Chieago to o 1|mctlun with the Chlcago; Rovk Island & Pacifle Rultrond, between Blue Island and Englewood, ‘This §s the transfer road, and {s at presont used by the Rock Island Road for a South Chicago branch, There will be no ditiiculty in sccuring this line at a vory low rate, a8 its projectors and owners would be glad to getrid of it.” Fromtho junctlon of the Rock Island Road the Transfer Company has tle right of way to the North- westorn” car slhops, and it would -cost but Jittle to bufld “this shoit soction.
