THE CHIOAGO TRIBUNE, CHICAGO WEEKLY TRIBUNE. TR LEADING NEWSPAPER I THE NORTHVEST. - TEE PAPER FOR THE FARMER, MECHANIC, MANUFACTURER, MERCHANT, BANKER, PROFESSIONAL MAN, AND THE FIRESIDE, ?ROSPLECTUS FOR 1874, Tho coming year promises to bo the most eventfulin s political sonse that we have soen sinco the closo of tho war. The questions which have engrossod and divided the publio mind during the past twonty years aro rapidly pessing awsay, and wo find growing up in different parts of the country a party called by vari- ous names---in California the Inde- pendent party, in Iowa the Anti- Monopoly party, in 'Wisconsin the Reform party, in Illinois the Farmers’ Movement---having a com- mon purpose and inspiration, and exhibiting a strength which proves that it answers one of the chief de- mands of the hour. The CHICAGO TRIBUNE will give a large share of its attention to this NEW MAN- IFESTATION OF PUBLIC SENTI- MENT. It holds: 1st. That the old party orgamiza- tions are essentially corrupt and fraudulent, Having no longer any principles to carry into effect, they have become mere business entor- prises, meking a show of opposition to ench other, but really sharing in the proceeds of profligate and dis- honest legislation. To suppose that any healthful reform can flow from the pretended efforts of these worn- out and demoralizod partnerships is altogether vain and illusory. 2d. That the tariff’ systom now in vogue is & cunning device to rob the many for the benefit of the few, and that its effect is to cause farm pro- ducts to oxchange for about one-half the quantity of foreign or * pro- tected” goods they would otherwise buy. 3d. That railroads cannot exact more than a fair rato of interest on the cepital actually invested in them, and that when, in addition to this, they claim dividends on watersed stock and fraudulent bonds, the State may rightfully interfere for the protection of the people; thatunjust discriminations betwoen different localities are in violation of law and should be prohibited. 4th, That subsidies or bounties of money, land, or public eredit, to railway, steamship, or other corpo- rations, are flagrant abuses of the powers of government, fraught with the gravest dangers to the people, and tending to promote corruption, extravagance, speculation, and financial disastor. The general charactor of THE CHICAGO TRIBUNE is too well established to need recaepitulation. It is always independent and fear- less in the expression of its views. In its news depertment it is second to no paper in the United Statos. The Weekly Edition contains & caro- {ully prepared summary of the news of the week, brought down to tho hour of going to press. Literary, politiocal, financial, so- cial, and agrioultural topics will constitute, as herctofore, leading features of the Weckly Edition, and no pains will be spared to increase its attractiveness in these depart- ments, Its market reports are un- surpassed, embracing all the infor- mation which farmors roguire for the intelligont transaction of busi- noss, both as scllors and buyors. THE WEEKLY TRIBUNE is 8 large cight-page sheet, of tho samo gize as the Daily Tribune, consisting of {ifty-six columns of closely- printed matter, and, as a family newspaper and in its general make- up, is unsurpassed by any paper in the land.
