FRACTIONAL CURRENCY, - $5 Packages FRACTIONAL CURRENCY KFOR BALK AT TRIBUNE OFFICE. URSO Y OHIOAGO TIIBURE: CEICACGO WEEKLY TRIBUNE. THE LEADING NEVSPAPER TN THE NORTAVESY THE PAPER FOR THI ' FARMER, MECHANIG, = . 'MANUFACTURER, MERCHANT, - - DANKER, ' PROFESSIONAL MAN, AND THE FIRESIDE. PROSPECTUS FOR 1874, Theo.coming. year promises. to bo the most oventfulin a political sense thet we have soen sinco the close of the war, The questions which have ongrossed ‘and divided tho public mind during the past twenty years ore rapidly passing away, and we find growing up in different parts of the country & party ocalled by vari- ous names---in California the Inde- pendent party, in Iowa the Anti- Monopoly party, in Wisconsin the Roform party, in Illinois tho Farmers® Movement.--having a com- mon purpose and inspiration, and exhibiting o strength which proves that it answers one of the chief de- mands of the hour. 'The CHICAGO TRIBUNE will givo a large share of its attention to this NEW MAN- IFESTATION.OF PUBLIC SENTI- MENT. It holds: 1st. That the old party orgamiza- tions are essentially corrupt and fraudulent. Having no longer any principles to carry into effect, they have become mere business enter- prises, making a show of opposition to each other, but really sharing in tho proceeds of profligate and dis- honest legislation. To suppose that any healthful reform can flow from the pretended efforts of these worn- out and demoralized parinerships is altogether vain and illusory. 2d. That the tariff’ systom now in voguo is a cunning device to rob the many for the benefit of the fow, and that its effect is to cause farm pro- ducts to exchange for about one-half the quaontity of foreign or ¢ pro- tectod” goods they would otherwige buy. 3d. That railroads cannot exact more than o fair rate of intorest on the oapital actually invested in them, and that whon, in addition to this, thoy claim dividends on watered stock end fraudulent bonds, the Btate may rightfully interfere for the protection of'the people ; thatunjust diseriminetions between different locelities are in violation of law and should be prohibited. 4th. That subsidies or bounties of money, land, or public orodit, to railway, steamship, or other corpo- rations, are flagrant abuses of tho powers of government, fraught with the gravest dangers to the people, and tending to promote corruption, extravagance, speculation, and financial disaster. The general character of THE CHICAGO TRIBUNE is too well established to need recapitulation. It is always independent and fear- less in the expression of its views. Inits news department it is second to no paper in the United States. The Weekly Edition contains a care- fully prepared summary of the news of the week, brought down to the hour of going to press. Literary, political, financial, so- cial, and agricultural topics will constitute, as heretofore, leading features of the Weekly Edition, and no pains will be spared to increaso its attractiveness in these depart- ments. Its market reports are un- surpassed, embracing all the infor- mation which farmers require for the intelligont transaction of busi- ness, both as sellers and buyers. THE WEEKLY TRIBUNE is a large eight-page sheot, of the same size as the Daily Tribune, consisting of fifty-six columns of closely- printed’ matter, and, as a family newspaper and in its general make- up, is unsurpassed by any paper in the land. THE TRIBUNE will be furnished during the ensuing year at the fol- lowing rates, payable in advance: ‘WEEKLY TRIBUNE. Twenty Cople: DAILY TRIBUNE, Daily Edition, ono year.
