Then why the fanatical tend- ency on tho part of tho tomperance faction to havo ‘‘the wholo hog or noue " As German-Americon cltizens, we cannot con- ceive—and I think most native-born ones will agree with me—ihat Amorican oheracter is by any means porfect, but that we all have much to learn from others, This being onr concoption, wo cannot see Any wrong in cherishing many o! the modos and customs of our Fathorland, "We think our native laud acrosa the wator hos many things worthy of imitation, and that wo show only u commondable characterietio in zealously cherishing the many good traits of Germanchar- acter and good modes of life.
