It will bo recollected thnt this land- grant, after o protracted and sharp contest bo- for tho Logislaturo, was awarded to tho Milwau- koo and Bt. Paul Railrond Company on terms proposed by its roprosentatives, and that sub- soquantly tho nccoptanco was refused by tho Diroctors ; that this action was gonorally and Dbitterly donounced by the pross, and arouscd much indignation smong the peoplo; that tho Attornoy and some others connectod with the Milwaukeo & Bt. Paul Railrond Company, with citizena of tho Chippows and Bt.
