16 THE C 1iCAGO DAILY TRIBUN. : BUNDAY, MARCIT 30, 1873. e e e —— GENTLEMEN'S FASHIONS, Business and Traveling Spits—-Full Dress and Demi-Toilette, Shirts, Collars, and Cuffs---Tie and Gloves. : Umbrellas, Jewelry, Boots, &c., &c. Gontlemen's modes for the coming soason, &8 shown and predicted by tho leading houses who supply them with the different costumes cspe- cially designed for various oceaslons, are, TOB EVERT-DAY WEAE, while zitending to business or traveling, tho English morning-jacket or the double-breasted ehort eack, They are mostly of English fabrics, of silk and wool mixtures or all-wool goods, and are in siripes and pluids, broken-checks, twills,” and other quiet, suitable designs. Buits may bo from off thesame piccs throughout, or with coat and waisscoat alike, and trousers different. This is a matter of taste, 83 either style is con~ sidered correct. A Tho Eoglish morning-jacket is & single- breasted garment, battoning well up on the bresst, with the waist of good length ; tho skirt quite short and cut away be- Tow, having flaps at tho sido of the hips ; and may or may not have an outeide bresst-pocket. Tie double-breasted short sack still continues In favor, #s, when properly cut, it is a stylish germent, and seems well suited for the purposs for which it was designed. It is cut longer than it was last year, rolls to the lapel, and is fasten- ed by two lower buttons. A little later in the season, it will be worn extensively with white waistcoats, for which it is particularly designed, and most gentlemen realize both the comfort and becomingness of that article of dress. The edges of these costs are merely stitched, whilo the bauttons are either of ebony or ivory to match. FOR FULL DBESS, thers is the regulstion dress-coat, made of black cloth, English or French,— the former baving tho preference for the present season ; it will be of medium length in waist and skirt, falling to’ within four inclies of the knee. Thw collar should ba of cloth, an inch and & half wide, whilo tho lapels roll to within one hole of the bottom. The sleeves are finished with & cuff fastened with two but- tons, while plain and ribbed silk breast-facings are worn by young men who are on the qui vive for noveltios. Theso coats are lined with silk or satin, bavo medium-sized buttons of plain cloth, and the edges are stitchod raw. With this suit * society-men” wear & waist- cont of heavy white silk, white peck-tie, and loves, with _trousers of black English or French doeskin, made either plain, or with o pamow sk braid down the ont- or pideseam. For less dressy occa- gions ; or, whera it ray bo desmed proferablo, waistcoats of the same material as tho coat, of black embroidered cloth, or of white embroidered Marseillos, msy bo substituted. Thero aro also hown, for the nice young man who leads the German, a variety of pearl drabs for trousers, which may be worn with cravat_and gloves to match, on certain_occasious. Biill, tho taste mustbo exceedingly caltivated, and the stylo very assurod, to admit of this innovation. The young man who entortains the slighest doubt Tpon the matter had better stick to tho regala- tion euit of undertaker’s black, or he will be apt %0 feel ill at ease and look ** shoddy.” . THE DOUBLE-EREASTED PRINCE ALVERT FROCK, of dark blue or black cloth, worn buttoned overa white brondcloth,) duck, or Marseilles waist- cont, 1a the most zechérche of tollsttes for concerts, receptions, morning weddings, high- teas, evening calls, or the promenade. Pearl ¥ caseimere trousers, with cravat and gloves B Corrorponding shads are commo il fagt. Thin dress is also worn at tho opers, but is not as dis- tingue s the rogulation Yull-dross, though it susy be permitted in Chicago until the new Opera-House is built and * Les Italiennes ™ bo- comos fixed factof & season’s _continuance, Then uniform full-dress will probsbly be oxacted trom both sexes. FOB DEMI-TOILETTE, manyadopt the Prince Albert frock, just de- scribed; while the Newmarket frock-cost dis- putes thetight to be considered * the thing” withit, Tho latter is cut mnglo—hmule\‘]iflg{ medium length both in waist and skirt, the skirt faling sway in fromt. This i3 festaned with omo button just below the centro of the breast, while the cuff aro omamented with two butfons. The *com- ing stylo,” however, is predicted o be the “Lord Btanley ' cut, bath double and eingle-bressted, preferably in'the latter manner, and worn but- toned. It is much cut away in front, and is con- sidered decidedly dressy. ‘Trousers of caseimere, of o lighter ehade and different pattern from the coat, in small checks, plaids, and fine stripes, are suitablo for demi- toilette. They aro cut to fall quite easily aver the log, and with s medium spring at bottom. Bide-stripes and bauds on these are used, but raade quite narrow. — r Cassimere waistcosts are high in favor amiong the cremedela creme of fashionablo society, while less 'Eutimflu peopls ‘are satisfied that material the esme s ‘the cost may be used. These materials are fino worsted goods, of English and French manu- Tecture, in checks, diagonals, birdseye crepes, and siripes. English Moltons are alwaya in good Laste, and extra qualitios of silk mixtares, with French tricots and_piques, are also used, and allow s sufficient varioty from which to cloose, to suit the most fastidions or peculiar taste. For business and traveling wear, SMIETS wre of linen and percale, in emall fgures and polka dots. Disgona] stiipes, mads with plain soms and Czar collar attached, sre also much affected. Tho Cheviot is entirely passe; so the young exquisito who visits tho rural districts will no longer come under tho ban of wesring bedtick by those usfortunates who 'are not posted sbout tho_ idiosyncrasies of fashionable _ aitire. Linen for fall dress is either made perfectly plain, or a very delicate and exquisitely-wrought vine of needlework arnaments the front. Some very elaborate patterns aro shown, but the man of good taste will shun them most decidedly. The neatest and Iatest are merely hem-stitched, and are particularly elegant in fall dress. 6 old-fashioned tura-down COLLAR is staple, whilo the Czar with broken points is 18 popular as ever. English and French designs differ alightly from thesa, the rolling * Arcadian” boing much liked and new. We msy mention tho narrow “Napior,” which is very alightly turned at the corners. Corded-edged collars, with culls and and shirt-bosom to malch, ara als0 in demand. . THE NEWEST CUFF is reversible, with broken corners to match the collar, or the points turned squarely back. IN TIES, a Iate stylo, known as tho ¢ Cunarder,” in pale shades, seem to tako tho lead. It is s knot and conds, and mg be either worn toshow the bosom, or crossed and fastened with s scart-pin. Very palo blue predominates, and * ghosts of colors™ are in fayor as much as with the ladies. These all have dots or rings, stripes being quife out of date. The old-fashioned Windsor tie, in dark colors, with large polka spots, still appears ; while checks and shepherd's Iplud! sre always ‘worn for certain occasions. The full-dress tie is of finest cambric, either with embroidered ends, or hemestitched to match the accompanying Linen, and may be eithor emaight or with wido ends. Lavender ties are deregle with light trousers. THE DENT GLOYVE, for riding and driving, is unsurpassed. _For the latter purpose, theyare made of very heavy goods, and are stitched instead of being over- sevn. Cartwright & Warner's =z TNDERWEAR “\:é? the best qualities, and appear to be prefer- T . CADRELLAS sre taking the place of canes, especially during e proseit sesson, and have 'straight cinnamon- wood handles, vary highly polished, and s silk cover. Thoy coms in the finest English goods, and are called tho walking-stick umbrells. IN JEWELEY PEOPER, cameos till seem to take thelead for slesve-but~ tons aud studs,—the only change being that now they aro in colors on o Lght groand, instead of light cuttings on a dark ground. Somethiny quite new consists of an oblong topaz, mounte with copper and silver-alloyed gold,—the first forming the base, and the second the eetting surrounding the stone. These are exquisitel engraved, and cost $65. For fall dreas, pink coral and solitaire dizmonds aro the proper thing £or yourg MeA With Dlenty of meuey, With the advent of spring, scarf-pins are goivg by, Ceme €08 are atill the faorito ring, and are also in dark’ shades on a light ground. Bolitaire die- monds for gentlemen bave & new sotting, designated as tho knife-blade; while" car-conductors snd bar-tenders will be glad'to know that clusters are in raised set- tings, the centre-stone being Ligher than the Test, and quite isolated by an open work rim of gold from the other stones,—thus making 8 groat deal more show for the money; and, for tho first-named gontlemen, will be found moro available than ever to uso as danger-signals. Lockets aro lsrger, being both round aod equare,—the lattor sbout an inch in broadth,— and havo eitler » solid gold bzck, or ono ‘of stone, in which the monogram is engraved or cut. Chaing in loud, elaborate patterns are offered to the unculiured pavernu; but fob-chaing in uniqne ond small designs are pro- ferred by thoso who aro to tho manner born. Aseries of double circlets, curiously cut and linked together, is especially noticeablo. B00T8 = aro mado with both equare and round toes,—tho box-toe, however, being less desirable than that kmown as tho Netw York stylo, which is soft and roun . ET-CETERAS. Cabats of Russis leather aro Atted up with all requisites; while - lunch-baskets for_gentlemen show a decidod predominauco of bottles and glnsses over plates and forks,—arguing thet the malo biped is o thirsty rather than hungry animal. ~ Dreesing-cases aro simply por- fect in their fitings, containing ~ all tho useful orticles for s gentleman's toilette, from s button-hook to & razor, with quite 25 many minutim for the beantifying of his Tordship a the most fastidions woman would asl {or,—“poudre pour glisser les ongles™ being in- cluded ivith brushes, etc. And 50 wo leavo tho modern Solomon, having given him tho Intest hints us to properly array. ing himaelf in all bis glory. formation was conrtcouely given us by Messra.
