Tho following grain has been inspected into store this morning, up to 10 o'clock: 303 cars wheat ; 242 cars and 44,000 bu corn; 49 cars and 5,000 bu oats; 19 cararye; 138 cars barley. To- tal (751 cars) 339,000 bu. The leading produco markets were egain lower to-day, and 2 very dull feeling prevailed in meny departments, with an almost universal desire to sellont. It wasthe samo old story of higher freights and consequent lowering of shipping ‘values, joined to the fear of a glut here this win- fer; as even high transportation rates may mnot bring out enough of carrying capacity to- take forward the produce’that wil f!e“ in upon us before next spring. Thoe need of greater carry- ing facilities was never more: widely felt thannow. | The movement in staple and fancy groceries wns only moderately active to-day, and values under- went but elight chango. _An increased supply of sugers bas had the efect to weaken ‘pricos, though aside from A's, B's, and C’s, which were Suoted at X¢e lower, there was_no appreciable eclino. Colffees were in good demsnd, and choice grades remain firm, Thers wes & good demand for syrups, at strong prices. Spices were also fairly active and firm, Other goods were quoted quiet and steady. Dry goods were active and unchanged. Flannels, the heavier woollens, and winter dress iuufls are in large de- mand, and were being held with pronounced firmness. In fact, the market gave no evidence of wealmess, save for unseasonable fabrics and 8oods that are out of style. Carpetings are meeting with only & fair _inquiry, and the market is not articularly ~firm. Butter and choeso remain fem an previously guoted. The fish market was more liborally supplied to-day, and a better feeling prevalled, ers, for the first time within the past fort: night, being able to fill orders with some degree OF promptness. There was no change in prices, former quotations being generally adhered to, Dried fruits remain dull. Hay was again active, but was easy, owing to liberal receipts and the late advance in freights, The hide market con- tinnes weak and declining. Oils, lenther, fo- bacco, and wood were without material change. There were 10 new features in the lumber trade to-day, business being fairly actire, and priccs unchenged. Building materials continie in ood demand and quite firm at former rates. (:oopemfie is_quiet and steady former quota- tions. Iron, tin, nails, and naval stores are sc- tive and steady. Thero is & good demand for salt, and prices aro looking upward, on account of the limited supply and Ligh freights. The wool trade is unimproved. Hops aro quiet ; ex- cepting a small demand among brewers for present necessities, nothing transpired. Poultry and gamo wera in large supply, and prices ruled weaker. Potatoes were dull, only choice varie- ties being salsble. Fruits unchenged. Apples only tmfiemely active. Grapes in good re- quest. Highwines were quiet and steady at yester- dtng'ea quotation, sales being confined to 100 brls at 88c. Lake freights were active at an advance of lc on the highest rates of yesterday, under an ur- gent demand from shippers, while carriers quot- ed vessels as scarce, A total of 17 charters was reported (including 3 yesterday aftumoong which will carry out 190,000 bu_whent; 170,000 bu corn, and 24,000 bu osts. Al of this grain hed been purchased previously, and some of it leldalong time. Sail rates closed at 18¢ on wheat, and 17c on corn, by sail to Buffalo, King- eton rates were nmmmlfy unchanged (vesscla for that port not being wanted), at 25¢ on wheat, and 2330 on corn. Provisions were quiet, and gensnlly quoted unchanged, though it is difficalt to ses how for- mer prices can be maintained with such a wesl- ness {n hogs as was reported from the Stock Yards to-day. Hogs are coming forward a great deal more rapidly than is wanted by packers, and buyers, both of hogs and products, natur hold off till they can see where the markat touch bottom. ~ There was no demand for pork to-day, except oneor two specnlative inquiries for winter delivery. Green meats would prob- ably be more active if the weather were col ler ; the packers o not care to cut while the mer- cury is 80 far above the {freezing point. Flour was very quiet—almost stagnant—at unchanged rates. " The demand was _confined to choice lots on local account, wanted by the rotail trade: there was no shipping inquiry, and probably will be none until the freight question 18 adjusted, and its effect npon relative sb.li[;mg values known. Buckwheat flour is remarkably weak for the commencement of winter. Bren i8 in somewhat better request, and was firm to-day. Also 10 tons bran £10.00; and 40 tons'at $9.75 o, t. . Wheat was moderately active, and irregular, at & range of 1@13c below yesterday's quota: tions, chiefly owing to & further advance in freights. Now York was quoted lower, but no till nfter our merket had led the way; and Chicago was_actually atrmfier after receivin, the news of the decline in New York. A grea meny operators profess to think that wheat hag not been go far below its real value in several years &8 now; but even th:z were gelling, and fow bought except to fill shorts. The reason seems lo%:e that the money market is tighter, especially with operators in* grain, an even those who have the market in their favor are safraid to call margins, lest the other paty, “asserting his indisputable right,” should also call margins, and find them with not enough money o meet the de- mand. Hence, ageneral attempt to close up, and a vast deal of settlemont, beyond which littlo was done, till near the cloge, When more confidence seemed to have been established, the shippors took hold more freely, and & few par- ties invested, thinking the market had touched bottom. Cornwas lees active, and irregular, declining 1c from- the lowest figures touched yesterday, but subscquently mfiied, in sympathy with wheet, and was more active, though with no en- couragement from New York. Ireights were 8gain 'higher, and £0 scarce ab that, that ship- pers Decamo_dishenrtened, and most of them left the market. The short interest bought liberally, with more of direct settlemont than usual, and offers to sell for future delivery were numerous. It may seem sirange thet ourro- ceipts should be o liberal while prices rule so low; butit is well known on 'Change that a lerge proportion of the corn now coming here bas been sold to armive, snd much of it ot considerably lhigher prices than those now carrent.
