SATURDAY, OCTOBER 17, 1925 REVENGE TAKEN FOR DEFEAT OF AST SEASON Fighting Spirit Wins for Local Eleven in Re- , _ tum to Form. ‘he Natrona County High chool grid team broke into the win column Friday. The victory here ‘over Laramie by a score of 6 to 2 showed the Casper men at their sumest and grittiest. Never belore h season had the local men shown ch fight as they displayed on the slippery and treacherous field, soaic- ed by rain and snow, before a smail stoup of courageous students and other boosters that had braved the cold weuther to see what Casper could do with one of, its most con- spicuous rivals. Last year Laramie won from Cas- per by a score of 6 to 0. Perhaps the sung of this defeat still was rank- ling. In any event, it was retrieved, and retrieved spiendidly. The visi- ters apparently were outclassed in the last half of the game. They had scored two points on a safety in the second quarter, and since up to thut time the respective squads appeared at abgut equal advantage the pros- pects of Layman’s men looked black- er than the clouds that hovered osely over the gridiron. Laramic’s deuce had not cone without much hard work. The south- erners had placed the ball within a yard of Casper’s goal line by a ser- was the fourth down and a to go. There was a line plunge. crowd was under the impression that the yisiters had scored a touchdown, A cheer went up from the stand when it was seen that Casper had held yallantly and uncompromising ly. It was Casper’s ball. Davis suap- ped it back to Allsman, The pass was lgw and thg, ball fell to the sround, * Casper's touchdown in the third period came on u similar play made by the visitors. Birks had punted from Laramie's 30-yard line, The ball rested within three yards of the goal and a Laramie man fell on it. In the pass that followed from scriin- mage, the Laramie back caught the ball and attempted a punt. Stenberg blocked the punt behind the goal line, falling om the pigskin for a uchdown, The line-up follows: Laramie (2) Casper (6) Lraisted - Cow Conglin ~.- Secwtcnsnesn Stugn Right Tackle Stone --- Martin Tatham Center Johnson ~--.---+- Hollingsworth Left Guard IL, Peterson ... J. STEGEMAN. (Director of Athletics at University of Georgia) (Copyright, 1925, Casper Tribune) ATHENS, Ga., Oct, the forward pass is. becoming less and less frequent as a regular ground-gaining play, It Is being held more as a threat.to keep offensive backs in their position, thus sery- ing the double purpose of making line plays more effective and pre venting possible loss of the ball through overhead play. This. style of play is being borne out consistently in the early games this year. Georgia Tech, in its vic- tory over Penn State, used only one forward pass last Saturday, confin- ing its play mainly to straight for- ward thrusts. Incidentally, the bril- Mant play of Wyckoff, Tech’s full- back in this game, stamped him as the south’s greatest back. University of Alabama, 1924 cdn- ference champions, are using tiie forward pass rarely, restricting it to an emergency or an occasional threat. With last year's backfield in- tact, Alabama has perhaps the best set of backs a southern team has had in ten years. Alabama employs the kicking game as a ground gnin- er more than any team in’ this sec- tion, which is unusual in a team with such strong backs. Marylands’ victory over Rutgers, the defeat of Texas university by Vanderbilt and Sewanee’s tie game with the Texas Aggies, indicate that the general Strength of teams in the Southern Conference is better than 17.—Use of; | | |Gridders Give Blood to Save Life of Youth DULUTH, Minn., Oct, 17.—@) » Cathedral THE WALL OF CHINA Has Little on Iowa Star for Size and Immobility Give BIAATES EACH TO DRAW CHECK FOR $8,700 FOR WORLD SERIES Losers’ End of Championship Play Nets Senators Only $3,800 Each; Other Clubs Get : Share of Gate Receipts. Tribune Want Ads Bring Results, FOOTBALL JHE * WHY AND HOW OF THE RULES : Opponents on Fair Catch By NORMAN E. BROWN. The position of the opposing side, when a kick after fair catch is at- tempted, is the same as that of the defensive side on the kickoff. That 1s, the opposing side may line up in any position back of a line par- allel with the goal lines and10 yards from the mark of the catch. They must remain behind this im: | aginary ten-yard line until one of) three things happens: \ The ball is kicked or the referee signals with his hand that the ball bas touched the ground | Or the ball touc otherwise es the accident or Or a member of the k advances beyond his restraining with the ball in hts possession, When any of these rules are vio- lated the kicking side may kick the ball again from a point five yards nearer the opponent's goal line than the mark of the original catch. arin ect ick A Line Guy Gay setls Ife insurance. ‘By NORMAN E.
