Hun- dreds participated and shots were fired. Rocks and eggs were used fre- quently as weapons. Chief of Police Steven Quill was overpowered by a crowd and his revolver, handcuffs and night stick were stolen. State Patrolman Edwin V. Downey was struck on the head with a stone. Both factions blame the other for the disturbance which started when stones were hurled at 200 automo- biles containing klansmen as they passed through the square to the meeting place on a farm, near here.
