THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 10, 1925 FRISCO FAMILY FALLO HEIR TO GREAT ESTATE Fortune Left by Adyen- turer in Bank of England Found. BY BEN G. KLINE (Copyright 1925 The Casper Tribune) SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. §,—As a fitting time, when San Franciscans are recalling the “days of the dons” a socially prominent San Francisco family is informed that it is heir to a third of a neglected estate of a mere $55,000,000 left by a Spanish pioneer and adventurer in the for- mer possessions of the king of Spain in this continent, who died in Eng- land about & hundred years ago, The local heirs are Mrs. Victoria Abella, great grand-daughter of Don Juan de Segui, and her son and daughter. Though it w known hat Don Juan was very wealthy when, @ political refugee from Guat- emala, he died in England, the mem- bers of his family in Central Ameri- ica were satisfied with the large landed estate he left ‘there and his widow made no attempt to. claim the fortune left-in the care of the Bank of England. The bank, how- ever, has kept up a search of the helrs and. through its Central Amer- ican branch has informed the San Francisco family of their third of the inheritance The local members of the family had believed the weal- thy don had left some property with the Bank of England but did not suspect that it was a great fortune. The Abella family came to San Francisco five years ago for the two children to complete their edu- cation. The son, Henry Abella, has become an American citizen; he is a student at St. Ignatius College. The daughter married here and ts now Mrs, Frank Davidson King. Two thirds of the huge estate goes to two of Mrs. Abella's sisters who live in Central America. ————__ DINNERSTORIES One night at a theater some scen: ery took fire, and a.very perceptible odor of burning alarmed the specta- tors, A panic seemed to be immi- nent, when an actor appeared on the stage. “Ladies and gentlemen,” he said, “compose yourselves. danger.” The audience did not seem reas- sured. “Ladies and. gentlemen,” contin: ued the comedian, rising to the ne- cessity of the occasion, ‘confound it all—do you think if there was any danger I'd be here?” The panic collapsed. There is no A northern gentleman was being entertained by a southern colonel on a fishing-trip, It wus the first visit to the south, ad the mosquitos were so bothersome that- he was unable to sleep, while at the same time he could hear his friend snoring audibly. “The next morning he approach: ed the ojd darky who was doing the cooking. “Jim,” he sald “how is it the cclonel {s able to sleep so soundly with so many mosquitos around?” “TV'll tell you boss,” the darky -re- pijed’ “de fust part of de night de kernel is. too full to pay any 'ten- shum to de skeeters, and de last part of de night de skeeters is too full to pay any 'tenshum to de kernel.” The automobile was a thing un- heard of to the mountaineer and he p Was very much astonished the day when he saw‘one go by without any Visible mean& of locomotion. His eyes bulged, however, when a mo-+ § torcycle followed closely in its wake and disappeared like a flash around =a bend in the road, “Gee whiz!" he said, turning to his son, “who'd ‘a’ s'posed that thing | had a colt?” IWSH SOMEONE WOULO OFFER OS ARIDE-I'M ABODT ALL IN BCROI SIN‘ IN TH! aie The topaz derives its name from Topozos, an island in the Red Sea.
