The prospect of re- newed hot weather in that section was taken by many traders as indl- cative of further injury to the spring wheat crops. On the other hand, advices today from a leading expert who has been observing conditions in North and South Dakotas said wheat was maturing a week earlier than usual and that reports of dam- age by black ruust had been greatly exaggerated. Opening prices, unchanged to 1%c higher, September $1.55 to $1.55%, and December $1.55% to $1.66%, were followed by a reaction to a little below yesterday's finish and then by a fresh upturn all around. Subsequently, the wheat market scored sharp gains, influenced by a trade estimate that the northwest wheat crop had suffered 30,000,000 bushels loss in the recent hot wave. Closing prices on wheat were strong, 2% to 444c net higher. September $1.57% to $1.57%, and December $1.58% to $1.52%. Rains in the corn belt tended to ease down the corn market. After opening at %c off to %c up, Sep- tember $1.07% to $1.08, corn prices underwent a general sag. Later, the corn market rallied ow- ing to wheat strength and to crop damage reports, especially from Ne- braska, where temperatures contin- ued around 100 with no rain, Corn closed trregular 4c net lower to %c advance, September $1.07% to $1.07. Oats traders took their cue chiefly from the action of the wheat mar- ket. Starting unchanged to %&c higher, September 46%c to 47c, the outs market held near to the initial range. Provisions were responsive to weakness of hog values. Wheat— Open High July Sept .
