“MONDAY, MAY 4, 1925 MICKEY WALKER MAY QUIT RING FOR THE MOVIES Conjecture Made When Kearns Partnership Is Announced. By FAIR PLAY. (Copyright, 1£26, Casper Tribune.) NEW YORK, May 4—The click of the movie camera sounds sweet to the cauliflower ear, There is no doubt of that and box offices and managers in the Roaring Forties are wondering today what part the movies played in the partnership ymed between Jack Kearns and Velter Champion Mickey Walker. Tho announcement that .Kearns would handle Mickey's business af- fairs in future came as a good deal of a surprise to fightdom. Many pro moters had sounded Mickey on the ject and were told no manager was needed or wanted, Joo Degnan, former boxing commissioner of New rsey, has been acting as the cham- r ‘s business adviser and judging by the lucrative houts Mickey has had In ‘the last year, has been doing a fair job, Fans *ere are wonder- ing, therefore, if Kearns has shown Mickye how he can make more in the movies than in the ring. Mickey {s not likely to be absent from the squared circle long, how- ever, He is a real fighter, with a ashing, smashing attack and his f ie belleve that if he tries the movies he will soon tire of Holly- wood Hfe and surroundings. Kearns will not be able to talk ‘half million dojlar purses” with Walker as he did with Dempsey and it is not likely that he will get a fifyt-fifty cut of the champlon's end, either. How- ever, Kearng fs reported to have paid an income tax of $91,000 last year aml his new arrangement will not lessen it any. ‘There probably will be an excellent gate at the Johnny Durdee-Sid ‘Terris bout Tuesday which will be the last battle the historic Madison Square Garden ever will see, The fans will go not particularly to see Dundee, ,The little Italian has Shown them everything he has or ‘will have in that same rifg. They will go to see how Terris shapes against a known proposition like Dundee. Then they can tell how he ‘will size up against the other Ught- wegiht contenders. Deep Sand Tests. LAN TSoUE IN COLORADO VOTE COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., May 2.—Hlan and antiklan factions will clash in Colorado Springs Mon- day over the naming of three candi- dates for the local school board. Injection of the Klan issue into the fight has made the school board election—ordinarily a minor affair, as elections go—tinto one of the bit- terest public disputes in the history of thé city. Colorado Springs newspapers have entered the fight on the side of the anti-klan faction.. A campaign con- ducted to gather in members for the Citizens’ league, ant!-klan in its be Mefs, has resulted in a force of more than 8,000 people being solld- ly arrayed in opposition to the hood- ed fraternity. Re-election arguments centered on the question of whether C. F. Al- Grich, local merchant and klan sup- porter, candidate for the school board, was a member of the organ- {zation backing him. Photographic copies of his application fér member- ship in the klan, purporting to de- -initely establish him as the official klan candidaté, was reproduced in newspapers. Aldrich has denied that he is a member of the secret order. HELP WANTED—Female WANTED — Woman for general house work; must have good refer- encer. 821 8. Beech. LADIES, LEARN BEAUTY CUL- ture.
