It is estimated by observers ‘that the mountain “moved” approximately 150 yards during its slide. Beyond the phenomenon of the “shifting” of the mountain which, geologists say, is not unusual, ex- cept in cases of peaks as high and large as the Meeker“ moving moun- tain,” the present meandering of this mountain caused little excitement in the region, except to block tite high- way between Rifle and this town for a distance of some 600 yards. So the “voyage” of the Meeker mountain will go down in history without any “black marks" of dam- age and destruction.
