THURSDAY, MARCH 19, 1925 Fd ifa Pearls, pea we wear them the smarter they grow. Perhaps because thelr soft Irredescent luster {s so becoming— porhaps because their demure sim plicity expresses the feeling of the mode of today better than any other jewel. But no longer fs it necessary to be able to afford a king’s ransom for one slender strand. For, so benu- tiful are inany imitation pearls that they are worn by the smartest women. The three strand necklace is un- * usually smart—especially for afte: noon or evening wear. But for those to whom it !s becoming, the choker necklace is a great favorite. A novelty with an evening dress which is cut rather low in the back is a choker necklace with a single strand of pearls hanging down the back like a Chinaman’s queue. Many a smart woman still winds a pearl necklace about her arm for a bracelet while others wear bracelets of fine strands of tiny pearls fast- ened with a single stone. And of all rings, the Jarge pearl is quite the best. Many 4 well dressed woman wears two of ‘them on her little finger—one of a faint pink- like tone—the other a soft. smoke Gold and Silver. And next in importance to the vogue of pearls is gold and silver. In fact, gold and silver {s even more popular—for tailored wear. There are choker necklaces of filigree gold or silver. With these are worn the new gold and allver spiral bracelets. It is small wonder that evening pearls—the more| frocks are very simple for they are almost covered by the huge feather fans which are quite the most recent aids to chic. They are larger than ever before and most favored when the plumes are gracefully long and uncurled. The New Gloves, The pull on glove with a carelessly wrinkled wrist ts by all odds the newest and smartest. They have an insouciante unstudied effect which goes extremely well with the care free mode of today, and they are equally smart with sports or more tailored attire A dainty little handkerchief which will complete the charm of many a summertime costume is shaped 1 flower petals and js seen in countle: Bay and gaudy colors. But the hand- kerchlef usually chosen to accom- pany the smartest frocks, especially in the evening, is of linen unbe- Mevably sheer and fine with the smallest of hand rolled hems. The gay linen handkerchief is more in the realm of sports and tallored wear. Purses Are Still Flat. The flat purse is still the newest Purse. A very clever version is seen for tailored wear which is a fiat leather purse on a tiny metal frame which {s so cleverly jointed that it opens out into almost a complete circle, allowing easy access to the innumerable small articles a woman likes to carry. However, nothing ts quite as smart as the leather purse of soft lizard skin with your monogram in silver mounted in one corner. LITTLE DRESSES of hand work. (Fashion Editor of the United Press) (Written for the United Press) NEW YORK, March 19. (United Press)—Each season we have new accessories and fads which buffet the last season's frock over the wares of fashion and ist us in|} Keeping that up-to-the-moment ap. pearance. Some of them are exager- ated affairs which many of us do not attempt to wear, while others | become so popular that they are al- most universally accepted. Bow-wow belts-and bracelets are among the new novelties which are chosen for sportswear. These belts jand matching bracelets look exactly |like dog collars—except that thi have no license plates attached to} them. They are made of leather and trimmed with naitheads and | use the regular clasp which is | found on the dog's collar. The twin bracelets which are worn on each wrist are duplicates of the dog col lar and of course match the belt in design and color, While this may be called a “flapper” style, many smart matrons at southern resorts wear them with the simple suede cloth sports frock. Brown, green and red are the popular colors and suede {s quite as popular as the glaz: ed kid effects, Among the new jewelry novelties are the Napoleonic bee pins. Handkerchiefs of brilliant trimmed in black, are newer than those of solid color. Often the black initial placed in one corner matches with narrow black border. White and black effects, however, are worn only for mourning Milliners are now displeying un- trimmed felt hats with rather wide brims which are to be cut the wearer. So many season color, to suit women like liners have brought out these wide brims so that women can cut off the brims to suit themselves, smartest felts this bound brims and one can cut as one pleases, A novelty seen in several smart shop windows carries out the shoul der corsage which has been so popular all winter. Linen, voile and crepe frocks have shoulder corsages embroidered in wool in floral de- signs. These are invariably embro! dered on the left shoulder. On very fine materials the corsage effect may be worked in tiny croas-stitch Among the new bracelets are the} elastic effects in silver gold, which are worn over short suede glove. y or the While these are very inexpensive, they look very smart with the street costume.
