Through the efforts of Congress- man Charles E. Winter of Casper, Thomas Olsen, Spanish American war veteran who lost his discharge papers in the San Francisco earth- quake, has been allowed a pension of $30 per month. Mr, O'son, a man about 50 years old, had thought nothing of the loss of his discharge papers in the earth: quake disaster until last summer when he was stricken by an attack of tuberculosis while Mving at La- voye. Mr. Olsen made application for ad- mission to the Battle Mountain San- atarlum at Hot Springs, South Da- kota, but experienced great difti- culty because he did not have the papers showing that he had been a veteran of the’ Spanish American war. Winter. et Congressman Winter's attention was called to Mr. Olsen's case and the Casper lawmaker investigated and found that Olsen's claim was just. On December 2, Olson was given transportation by the Govern ment to Hot Springs and has been in the Battle Mountain Sanitarium ever since as a patient in Ward 3. Congressman Winter had brought pressure to bear on the Pension Bur. eau and Olsen was admitted to the Sanitarium shortly after the matter was brought to the attention of the Bureau. Mr. Olsen has been so grateful over the interest manifested in his behalf by Congressman Winter that | he sent friends here a copy of the letter which he received from the | Casper solon. The letter was dated March 10, was addressed to Mr. Olsen at Hot Springs, and read as follows: “I take great pleasure in advising you that I havd been informed this morning by letter from the Pension Bureau, that your claim for pension has been granted, effective from De- cember 2, 1924, at the rate of $30 per month.
