PARENTS ARE INSANE OVER GIRL'SDEATH DENVER, Colo., March 3,—Lena Rahoutis, four ‘years old, died here of burns incurred when her clothing caught fire in the kitchen of the Rahoutis home here today find her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gus Rahoutis are ih the general hospi- tal, temporarily insane from grief and shock, Police investigators said Mrs, Ra- houtis tent to a neighborhood gro- cery store, leaving her two children, Lena and a younger ¢éhild, alone in the house. As she neared the house upon her return screams st tled her and she rushed in to find Lena a Yving torch, rolling upon the floor In @n effort to put out the fire that was searing her flesh. The mother beat out the blaze but the child Was dead when a police sur- keon reached the house, Police Were unable to get any details of the tragedy from the two Xear old Sister but a small coal shov- el lying on the stove and a displaced Stove lid told a mute story of the traged: The child, the police a lieve, removed the stove lid and started poking the fire with a coal shovel; the sleeve of her dres caught in a spurt of flame ing to the police, and in a twinkling her dress was ablaze, Paris Sewer Gives Up Rich String Pearls PARIS, March 3, (United Press).— In “The Days We Would Like to Live Over” the regular fellers used te gather around the neighborhood sewer on cleaning day to see what the workmen would fetch up. Boys will be boys the world over, and a group of French lads were’ watch- ing’ the cleaning operations of a sewer in Avenue Alphand here when they saw a cluster of glistening lit- tle balls. They snatched it up, thereby attracting attention, and close inspection fdentified it as a string of pearls of great value. Detectives at headquarters recog: “nized the pearls as the property of Princess de Broglie. Her residence {n the street where the pearls were found, was robbed fifteen days pre- vious and several articles of jewelry stolen. One cluster of diamonds w: found under a rug in the hallway, a pendant was picked up in the gar- den. With the recovery of the pearls only one article, a diamond ring, re- mains missing. The theory of the police is that the robbers were surprised in their work and frightened away, felt they were about to be captured and got rid of the jewels as best they could to re- move the evidence. A more careful cleaning of the sewer was immediately ordered to find the ring, and the regular fel- lers of the neighborhood were all there to help look.
