Wells Music store and the Klein-Marks Music and Art Shoppe for the concert to be given” here on Monday evening, January 19, at the America theater, under the auspices of the cherity depart ment of the Casper Woman's De partmental club. Appearing on the program will be Richard Crooks, noted American tenor and Mieczslaw Munz, the sensational young Polish pianist Richard Crooks was born in Tren- ton, N: J., and started singing at the age of 10. A few years later when he was appearing at the auditorium in Ocean Grove, N. J., a well known New York voice teacher and chotrmaster heard him and immediately engaged him for soloist at All Angels’ church, New York. Mr. Crooks occupied the posi- tion of soprano soloist there for two years, later returning as tenor solo- ist. During the war he enlisted in the 626th aero squadron, the de- velopment of his voice being ma- terlally assisted by the strenuous- ness of the life he led. Later he ‘returned to his church position and in 1921 was chosen from 45 others for the important post of tenor solo- ist at the Fifth Avenue Presbyterian church, New York. At 12, he shared hon with Schumann Heink before an Bhdience of 14,000 people at an important music festival; at 21, Dr. Walter Damrosch, the distinguished con- ductor of the New York Symphony orchestra, was listening to him at a requested audition in Aeolian hall, New York, with the mesult that he was immediately engaged for the unprecedented number of seven per- formances with the orchestra, not only in New York, but also for Washington, Baltimore, Philadel phia and Rochester. What young singer before the public today can equal the record of Richard Crooks! Or match the really remarkable notices he has recetved from impor- tant critics everywhere? Munz plays the works of!ell the classical composers, but prefers Bach, Brahms and, Cesar Franck. In a recent interview In a New York newspaper he expressed regrets at not wishing to impose on his hear- ers by playing Schumann's. Etudes Symphoniques (one of his favorites) because of the fact that this num- ber has been featured by the ma- jority of pianists on their programs recently, both in New York and on tour. Regarding modern composers, Munz,'s préferences are Rachman inoff, Szymanowski, Ravel and Busont eee Divisions of Union To Meet Friday.
