SIGGS? Treasure Hunting Fad Of British Society Is Introduced in Atlanta By ARTHUR PARKER, Copyright, 19: Consolidated Association. ATLANTA, Ga., Jan. 9.—Society here has gone stark mad on treasure hunting, a fad imported from Lon- don. In the last several weeks, a dozen hunts have been Neld, bags of gold ranging up to $50 have been found, the police have made cases against the best known members of the younger set for smashing the speed laws and one or two automobiles have been wrecked. Fox hunting, in the days of the old south, was a mild sport, com- pared with this modern pastime of racing an automobile at fifty miles an hour through the streets in search of clues leading up to a hid- den bag of gold. The biggest hunt of the season so far was held Monday when 100 pedple gathered at Dan Conklin's home on Peachtree street. They were divided into couples, ‘a boy and a girl, each equipped with an auio mobile—the speedier the better. The first clue led to Piedmont Circle, t second to the attic of a Fourteenth street, another grave on Pace’s Ferry road, another to Piedmont Lake, and, finally, back to the Conklin house, where Harriet Shedden and Jack Sharp found a bag of gold pieces amounting to $50. Mr. and Mrs. Godfrey MacDonald started the tr ure hunting fad here, but they little realized what they were stirring up. Bridge and dancing have been forgotten. Clues are distributed In various places and the hunters, riding in automobiles driven at top speed, rush through downtown streets and sections searching for signs that lead to the bag of gold. Many of the clues are written in verse. At the hunt given by Miss Willa Hawkins, the first clue read: “Under a rock, in a dry swim- ming pool, “At a club with a cigarette name, Classified Rates Two cents per wore or ten cents per line. Another clue directed the hunters to a “Lovely home, a shade of brown, “What Milton loved, a baker found. “For a Spanish don, was named, “The home was built by a cake far-famed, “A fancy lamp on the inner gate, “Will tell what more there's to re- late.” The home was on Ponce de Leon avenue and is the residence of F. O. Stone, of the Stone Baking Com: pany. But the police declare they are the real winners in this new game. The traffic fines that are being assessed against the speeding hunters beat any hidden bag of gold for money value. —————————————— POSITIONS WANTED the street WANTED—Work, can drive car or will do any work for expenses.
