THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 18, 1924,. CONDITION OF VEST OCK Io Survey Says. ~ wyoming” tattle and” sheep are generally in very good condition, but the hay crop is a little short of last year and fall and winter ranges are generally dry according to the monthly livestock and range report issued by the U.S. Division of-Crop and ‘Livestopie estimates. — ‘Ranges ‘he. continued. dry weather re- ited in the yfurther drying of the ranges and pastures over most of, the state, with prospects of short fall and winter range on the desest ranges-along the Unicn Pacific. Theseast Part of the state is very Gry with some shortage of water. The ranges in. the Big Horn Basin and North Central Dis- trict are’ above normal with g good crop of grass well cured. High ranges have held up well and are in much) better condition than the low ranges. ~The crop of grass and forage was’ generally good due to an abuftdance of moisture during last fajl: and winter and early this spring.’ “The: grass has cured in excellént; shape, with fall and win- ter range outlook is fair to good. The condition of the ranges is 85 per cent. compared with 91 it montit _ and 104° pér cent one year ago. Hay The state's hay crop promises to be abgut 200,000 tons short of last year, but—in the Big Horn Basin and North.Central District the crop. will be larger than in 1923. The large desert sheep ranges in southern Wyoming -are very dry, and winter feed prospects are only fair, MILK PRICE | AT LOW EBB IN SEATTLE SEATTLE, Wash., Sept. 17.—Milk to be ered to Seattle homes at nine Cents a quart and six cents a pint beginning today. The Seattle Milk Shippers’ Association -has , an- nounced. This is two cents lower than it has been and according to the association, the lowest milk has been ‘since pre-war days. shorter crop however will be offset.|/ by ‘the excellent quality of — hay whigh has ‘been harvested under {deal weather conditions, while last year there was much damage from rain. In that part of the state south of Yellowstone Park and west of Medicine Bow the short crop in sections’ is offset by a large carry over from thé 1923 crop. Gen- erally the’ supply will carry...the stock, except posstbly in the less vored: sections of southern and the east central districts. In the eastern third. of, the state, the: crop of corn‘and other feed will be short- er than in 1923. The hay crop is forecasted at 1,550,00 Otons com- pared with 1,756,000 tons last year and the 1922 crop of 1,661,000 tons. The 1924 crop is made up of 1,293,- 000 tons of tame hay and 257,000 tons of wild. ‘Wyoming cattle are in very good"| condition and have so far not shown a @ecline corresponding to that of the ranges, due to the holding on higher and better feed. The well cured grass has also held up the cattle and the early shipments to market show that ‘most’ of the cat- ue are well hardened and in fine flesh. It is evident that the dry condition of the lower ranges will bring about a more rapid decline in cattle and.in some sections re- sult ir a little earlier Reports g a rather decided tendency to ell close. with some outfits closing out. Prices: have been, unsatisfac- tory with returns slightly below last fall. The cattle going to market will include a lttle more young stuff and breeding stock than last fall, with indications that the total move- ment will-be almost as heavy as last fall. Old; sheep are generally in good shape. The condition of the sheep is 100. per cent, 4 points below last month and 3 points below one year ago.’ Marketing from a few of the drier sections -will.-be-a- little early, with * Prospects of the total sheep .move- ment being about 10 per cent -heav- Jer than last year, due to the larger number of lambs.
