If each district commit- teewoman. is responsible for the units in her district, there would be a spirit of friendly rivalry created which would’ increase mem- bership and service to the depart- ment and be an invaluable help to the department president who can not keep in as close touch with the units as it is possible*for district committeewomen to do. They would be most helpful in rounding up de- linquent units, executing the wishes of department headquarters; and promoting good-fellowship ‘and co- operation. At the request of na- tional. and department Legion ‘of- ficers we sont’ numerous telegrams to our representatives in Washing- ton urging the passage of the ad- justed compensation bill. The Le- gion is to be congratulated upon their ‘splendid victory in securing the passage of this bill. Prison Work. At. the San Francisco convention Prison Welfare committee was created and Dr. Kate Barrett, na- tional past . president, was named chairman, We recommend the cre- dtion of a Department Prison Wel- fare committee whose duty it shall be to keep in touch with the ex- service men in our state penitentiary at Rawlins. A record should be kept of the number of ex-service men incarcerated and every possible help given to them, letters may be writ- ten to thelr families, some cases probably should be turned over to the Veterans’ Bureau for treatment. They should be remembered af Christmas time and other specific days. It is recommended that local units carry out a prison welfare pro- gram in their local communities. The unit chaplain might serve as chairman of the local unit prison committee. The Auxiliary can co-|« operate with the Legion in sending representatives -to the. prisons to assist imprisoned ex-service men in making out their. applications for adjusted compensatign.
