PAGF. TWELVE. . CONVICT FOUND DEAD IN CELL AT CANON CITY Investigation Opened Into Death of Man Hurt in Fight. CANON CITY, Colo., Aug. 21.— Prison officials tc are continuing their investigation into the cireum- stupces surrounding the death of Antonio Neront, 26 years old, con- Victed slayer of four of his country- men, serving a life sentence in the pehitentiary here, who was found dead in his cell yesterday, Neroni’s body bore traces and marks of a beating said to have been administered by Jack Robin- son, a trusty serving a sentence of from four to ten years. Neron!, who was known to prison officials as the “Human Gorilla,” is said to have been severely beaten by Robinson during a fight on ‘Tuesday afternoon. His death ap- parently occurred from internal in- juries caused by blows struck dur- ing the fight. The fight, according to prison authorities occurred when Neront, a man of great strength, started menacingly toward a group of visitors to the insane ward where he was confined. Robinson inter- ferred, it is said whereupon Neroni attempted to stab Robinson’ with a knife which he had concealed on his person. Robinson managed to evade the knife thrust and a terrific battle ensued between the two men. A nearby guard rushed between the men and grabbed Neront and according to officials who saw the attark Robinson then renewed the fight and knocked Neroni from the guard's grasp and to the floor. He then proceeded to continue his beat- ing, it is alleged. Neroni was removed to his cell apd later Tuesday night a guard is said to have heard him groaning but paid no attention to it, until the man was found dead yesterday. . : “KID McCOY¥" IN PRISON.
