(This is the first of a geries of automotive articles by Sparky, which will deal with the-outstand | ing features of the various auto- mobiles represented in Casper. Each week Sparky will drive a different machine, and each Sun- day will give readers of the Trib- une’s automobile section the fea- tures of that ‘particular machine which stand out prominently.) BY SPARK PLUG Outstanding among the maty fea- tures of the new Peerless Six, Now on display at the Nash ‘ Casper Motor Co., is its almost uncanny ability to ascend steep grades in high ge: Thoroughly skeptical but willing to be shown, Spar took the. wheel of the new Peerless Yast Tuesday, and slid -easily out of the Nash per salesroom in search of something that should prove the new car’s master. Lester ‘Bird of the Nash agency had previously as- sured Sparky that the new | Six would negotiate Fifth Street hill in high gear from a standing start in high at ‘the foot of the hill. At Witth and Grant streets the Peerless was brought to a dead stop but allowed to remain tn high gear. The start in high was smoothly made and with no seeming effort on the part of the motor. The machine gathered speed and topped the hill at 15 miles an hour. The Peerless was then returned to Lincoln and Fifth streets. at the very foot of the direct up grade, turned around t the intersection and again put over the top of the hill without a change of gear. It ‘was truly a remarkable demonstration of pull- ing power. Out past the Standar@ refinery glided the new six, its motor running smoothly and silently. The car was throttled down in high qear to one mile per hour without tho least effort The Peerless put the first hill on the Salt Creek road behind her at 50 miles per hour: without a particle of vibration. That she had plenty of reserve speed at the time might easily be determined by the fact that the throttle was only impressed to. an approximate half way. . The new Peerless Six fs a beaut!- ful chars powerful, It is equipped with four wheel hydraulle brakes which make it handle swiftly and surely. Jehandles as easily in traffic as machine Sparky has ever driven, which of course makes it an ideal ladies’ machine. It has plenty of power and speed for the man who “drives to get there,” and in short it js rapidly demonstrating to Casper that it is the Peerless Mo- tor Car Co's finest product. To them, Casper ts like a magic city, created from the ‘dust of the plain ,and springing up as though at the command of some all powerful being. Time passes swiftly as old age approaches, and the two old men who came to Casper before its existence was even a re- mote thought, of a great city upon their beloved Wyoming hills, as little short of a miracle, and cruel one at that. Sunday, they will probably leave. They may never return, but they will leave behind them the know- ledge in the hearts and minds of all of us that it Is to such as they that we owe our present happiness and prosperity.
