DAY, JULY 3, 1924. fn. One hundred and forty-six years ago tomorrow the United States was born a free nation. Each suc- -ceeding year has seen it de- velop into a country richer in those inheritances of freedom which have made .it the most wonderful country in the world. Today as years ago the people turn out in throngs to witness this or that celebration. A free- dom from the restraint of every- day life and business prevails and the people celebrate a new freedom each Independence day. Subjects of for- eign nations have looked to the spirit that pervades in America for their cue to assume their rightful place in the world. and America has never failed in placing before them a guiding principle, liberty, equality, justice. In the hundred and forty-eight years that have elapsed since that memorable day in 1776, a mul- fiplicity of events have come about that cannot but make us realize the importance of tomorrow. 1776--- Independence Day--- 1924 Auspicious of a happy future as it is remindful of a successful past, Independence Day will be celebrated tomorrow as ene of the great days on which heroism is given its due. In many cases the Fourth will be celebrated legally, In others the pre- \Volstead era will again come into being. Some people will be killed perhaps, but the glorious Fourth will not have been lost as a day of cele- bration.
