The chances are you Wwonld believe Miss Dana had been living a strange Dr, Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde existence. But that was exactly what Viola Dana did, and not at the studio either! The house broken into by the screen star was Warner Laxter’s Mr. Baxter is Miss Dana’s Jeading man in her latest Metro success, “In Search of a Thrill,” which opens n two day engagement at the Rialto theater beginning today. Now you've guessed it! The “rob- bery” was an impromptu rehearsal of an {dentical scene in “In Search of a Thrill” that was directed by Oscar Apfel, photographed by John Arnold, and adapted to the screen by Basil Dickey from Kate Jordan's magazine story. In the picture Miss Dana dis- guises herself as a crook, and breaks into the home of the man she loves. #o that she may be captured and win his sympathy. So Miss Dana gained access through a porch window of the Baxter home, and they went through the scene with such effec- tive results that the next day DI- rector Apfel was amazed when they acted the episode for the camera without a single rehearsal. There was a time when a little painted scenery was ample background for the actors, and the action or “business” was largely developed as the work went on. ‘The rresent masterpiece presents such a contrast‘that it is hard to believe the strides which this form of entertainment has made in the few intervening years. Whole ar- mies are seen from dizzy heights and it is easy to imagine that the scenes were made at tho ancient cathedral of Notre Damo itself, though this was not the case. Every student of history knows the epoch making events that center around that famous building build- ed on an island in the river at Paris, France, Every soldier who has been to Paris has seen its massive pile, and it will be hard to convince anyone who has been there that it is not the original building which is used in the film and yet it is only eRe TORR ant JESSE LASKY William de Mille PRODUCTION AGNES AYRES-JACK HOLT NITA NALDI-THEODORE KOSLOFF ROD LA ROCQUE @ Paramount GPicture The life and loves of a famous opera singer en- thrallingly revealed.
