LOUISVILLE, Ky., March 10.— Police had before them today the confession of William Gates, 31, a salesman, who shot and killed his erstwhile friend and former em- ployer, Richard Heaton, 23, a member ‘of the merchandise brokerage firm of Heaton and Fisher, after Heaton had kept him while he prepared to perform an operation. Frank Cordell, a private detec- tive of, Indianapolis, was under arrest there charged with kidnap- ing Gates. FIGHT .sssxes-= GROWING WARM Financing Program of Wilson Company Is CHICAGO, March 10.—The atten- tion of business interests tn all parts of the country is centered on the struggle between Thomas E. Wil- son, prosident of Wilson and com- pany, packers, and Swift and com- pany, rival packers, over the matter of new financing by -Wilson and company. Swift and company {s opposing the new financing, and today Wil- son issued what is regarded’ as a threat to suspend dividends on the Preferred stock. The Swift family owns approximately 25 per cent of the preferred stock- Opposition from the Swift family is based on thetr belief that the new financing would “sacrifice the rights and values of the present preferred shareholders.” ° ‘Wilson, on’ the other hand, holds the new financing would help re- duce the company’s indebtedness and make its position stronger than ever. In a statement issued today, Wil- son said in part: “It must ba apparent that ff the Swift interests succeed in blocking the plan to raise additional funds through the issue of saock, they will Probably render necessary the sus- pension of preferred dividends.
