2 R ) a ir ‘ 2 h o , RIALIO PGTURE HAS. SLICE OF REAL LIF It ts seldom that a picture carries the truth and accuracy of plot, characterization and background of “East Side, West Side,” the Prin- cipal es attraction, which comes Rialto theater today, as an Irving Cummings production. It ts a picture wh: shows that life is just what you make it. It paints accurate’'y and vividly that @ young girl can retain her high code of honor—that she can keep her head up and smile the shadows away, through a willingness to keep faith with her ideals. The authors, Leighton Osmun and Henry Hull, have drawn a compelling canvas of life in New York City, that Baby- lon of romance. Here among its erowded streets and its rich con- trasts they have exposed a genuine slice of life—a story so accurate and true—so eloquent with romance, sentiment and atmosphere, that {t wil be accepted everywhere as one of the most human stories ever writ- ten, $< —___— MARRIAGE QUESTION 19 DISCUSSED IN PLAY OF “WHY WIVES GO WRONG” “Marriage is the uniting of two ideas of God in perfect harmony.” the Stranger in the stage play, “Why Wives Go Wrong,” which is to be presented by the original com- pany direct from New York and the Columbia theater The Columbia management been most fortunate in securing attraction, and it deserves the united support of Columbia play- goers for it 1s seldom that Casper ASPIRIN Beware of Imitations! Their Engagement {s Expected! fhe GENTLE GAMBLER GETS ROUGH ON OCCASIONS In the William Fox production of “Cameo Kirby,” adapted from the stage play by Booth Tarkington and Harry Léon Wilson, the leading character is & refined gambler, scion of a southern family frorn which he has been estranged by circum- ne Known aa “Cameo, be- cause of a superstitious fondness for the carved stones, he becomes no- torious along the M! asa fearless gambler,—a gentleman, but inclined to be rough when occasion demanded. In the title role, John Gilbert ts said to present one of the most pic- turesque characters in fiction his- tory with remarkable realism. To commence with, Gilbert studied the characterization carefully and he also watched the original stage per- formance with Dustin Farnum in the title role. Gertrude Olmsted plays the feminine lead and they are supported by a capable cast. “Cameo Kirby" opens at America Theater tomorrow for a day engagement. SLANDER COSTS A LIFE IN “WHITE SHOULDERS” What can a brother do when his sister's good name is bandied about a smoking room, even though the offender is an older man and one of riches and influence? The reply to such action ts a shot according to Robert Lee Pitman, brother of Virginia Pitman, | the heroine of ‘“‘White Shoulders,” the First National attraction starring Katherine MacDonald which closes at the Iris theater today. In this case, however, the shot was so well directed that it cost Col. Jim Singleton, of the loose tongue, his life and brought the chivairous and hot headed brother before the courts of the law fn a fight for his own life, From this time on the action of this gripping photoplay shows the manner in which Virginia Pitman, played by Miss MacDonald, saved her brother and vindicated her own good name as well. The part of the brother is played by Tom Forman, who also directed the picture. Other well known play- ers in the cast include the child actor Richard WHeadrick, Bryant Washburn, Nigel Barrie, Charles K. French, James 0, » Fred Maletesta, Lincoln Stedman, Wil- Ham Du Vuall, and Lillian Law- rence. “White Shoulders” {s a screen a aptation of George Kibbe Turner's Saturday Evening Post serial story. audences are given an opportunity of seeing the same cast that first presents a stage play. “Why Wives Go Wrong” denis with the problem suggested by the tle in @ new and masterful way. It is weil worth seeing by those who may or may not be contemplating matrimony or who have already entered upon that rather uncharted sea filled already with so many ship wrecks. It is not a play that would interest children and for that rea- n the rule has been put in effect at no children are to be admitted This does not signify however that it is @ play “not fit to see.” In fact, it is a play that should not’ be missed by those who have reached a stage of sufficient seriousness to profit by it. The ladies’ matinee which was held at the Columbia this afternoon drew a packed house and from all sndications the two shows which are to be held this evening at 7 and 9 o'clock will draw excellent crowds. ——$—__o “OIX CYLINDER LOVE” DEALS WITH PROBLEM FACING MODERNS The minute man, one-of those who dre born every minute accord- ing to Barnum, is the man who buys an automobile and mortgages his house to pay for it, if one is to believe the author of “Six Cylinder Love," which is playing at the America theater for the last times today. This is a picture that is not to be taken too seriously although there is a certain foundation in fact behind it. There are a number of comic and to some persons thor- oughly disgusting characters such as the sponger, the honeymooning couple, etc. The characters are excellently drawn and provide a riot of comedy. One even is brought to admire the honeymooners after they are through mooning. “Six Cylinder Love” deals with a problem that is ever present with the modern American and should be a wholesome lesson to the man contemplating the purchase of a car if he really cannot afford it, though the point at which 2 man can afford one will doubtless be a matter of opinion.
