Y¥. COMMISSION By HENRY L. FARRELL (United Press Sports Editor) NEW YORK, Nov. 22.—(United Press)—Announcing a policy direct- ed at construction, rather than de- struction, @ spirit of co-operative supervision instead of autocratic dominance and a preference for com- mon sense, the recently reorganized New York Boxing commission has a good chance to assume the place of respect to which it is entitled as the governing body of boxing in the field. William Muldoon, whose misdirect- ed, though honest and sincere zeal, caused the commission to become the laughing stock ofthe boxing world, has beén set back to a rather minor séat in the counell, and Wil- "am J. McCormick has succeded him as the dominating personality of the | commiagion. McCormick fs young and he has “been around.” He started as a borer on the East River water-front and worked himself up until he is now the general manager of the biggest trucking firm in New York. He knows how to hand’e men, and \s a thirty-third degree boxing fan, he knows how to handle boxers. McCormick's first active stroke in | the attempt to get the commission sack into repute came with the an- ‘aouncement the commission would revert back to the old cardinal rule of the game that championships are won and lost only !n the ring. Muldoon’s administration had tried to establish the precedent of de- throning champions and setting up new ones by passing resolution in official session, and it resulted in open ridicule for the commission. McCormick then started a cam- paign to bring the commission down to boxing, instead of lifting the sport to the heights that Mudoon had assumed were the rightful provinces of the commission, Muldoon would not suffer boxers, managers or sport writers near the sacred confines of the commission offices and he acted on the theory that there was no appeal from the culings of the commission. McCormidk threw the doors of sport's biggest and most important | the commission open and invited all the boxers, managers and sport writ- ers to come in, take off their coats and go to it. Xecently, after the announcement had been made that no more titles would be dectared forfeited and that champions who would not defend thelr titles in the future would be penalized only by a suspension, Mc- Cormick invited all the champions, thelr managers and the boxing writ- ers to come in and talk It over. Mickey Walker, suspended welter- weight champion, and Joe Lynch, suspended bantamweight champien, and their managers were surprised when they were inyited to attend the meeting. Managers of champions, in thé good graces of the commission, a'so expressed surprise, because the com- mission had shown gn inclination to even permit them within the out- side rail, McCormicte told them that as long as he was a member of the commis- sion that the boxer was going to get an even break. He critcised the actions of Mul- Jaoon and said he would not be @ party to any more unfair mistakes. Johnny Wilson, he said, had been grievously, wronged by the commis- sion when he was suspended and deprived of the opporunity of mak- ing any money as the middleweight champion. “Wilson’s purse of $35,000 was held up because he made an unsatis- factory fight with Bryan Downey,” McCormick said. “The commission had no right to suspend him or to allow his purse to be held up. It was thelduty of the referee to throw them out of the ring, if he thought it was a fake fight. “To get the money that rightful'y belonged to him, Wilson was forced to sign an agreement to fight Harry Greb, the toyghest man in the class. He signed the agreement, got his money and then told the commission to jump in the ‘ake. I would have done the same thing. He was black- jacked into the match and he cer- tainly had a moral right to use the defense. same weapon in hi; Radium For Your High Blood Pressure Results Even Among Old People Are Nothing Short of Marvelous—Says Noted Scientist “One of the principal causes of old age is the hardening of the arteries due to increased blood pres- sure,” said a noted scientist. “Radium rays caught in sugar of milk and made up into tablets taken internally seem to work miracles,” he said. And this has been verified in hundreds of instances recently by these tablets, called Nuradium, now sold by leading druggists in ‘vials of 210 tablets. ° Among the indications of hig blood pressure are shortness of breath or difficult breathing, sep « of fullness with throbbing in thu lower abdomen, restlessness at night with tendency to rapid pulse, sleep- lessness, extreme nervousness, dis- tress when in reclining posture, kidney weakness, puffiness under the eyes, loss of weight and const!- pation. There is apt to be a great variety of minor aches or pains, from head- ache to gouty indications and such peop'e are rarely free from any or all of these disturbances and 4is- treases. ‘These small sugar of milk tablets do not drug the system but supply it with a new force, a marvelous form of energy. They throw off countless rays of action. They arouse every part of the body, they cause the glands to awaken, they inerease metabolism, they foree out impurities, they compe! nutrition, they bring about the release of con- gestions and thus lift the pressure on kidneys, liver, heart and thyroid and other glands by which the pulse is lowered and the system again works in harmony. You can get these Nuradium tab- ets in vials at leading drug stores at $1.50 or from The Nuradium Co., 111 No. Dearborn St., Chicago, who have just issued a remarkable pamphlet by the noted scientist, Dr. E. That he was matched with Greb and lost his title was his manager's doings, as we had nothing to do with it.” McCormick then added that tn the future the commission would not foree the champion to accept any challenges until he had served six months as a champion and then it would not force the champion a challenger who was not a bona fide contender or a good attraction. “We believe that the boxer who has worked hard years for sma! purses should be forced to meet the best man in his class just a8 soon as he has won the title and we will see to it that he does not have to do tt," McCormick sald.
