Whatever may be recommended, Mr. Harding will have final decision, and: there 1s no intention of placing such matters as that before him until he gets back his strength. William Wrigley, Jr., presented to Secretary Christian an invitation to the president and Mrs. Harding to spend the days of the former's convalescence at Catalina, where he has a large estate, Neither was the change for the bet- ter immediately noticeable in reduc- tion of the number of telegrams re- ceived. All through the early hours of the evening messenger boys con- tinued to make frequent trips with telegrams and the stream got under way again early this morning, In the meantime vallant efforts were being made to write and have signed acknowledgments of the wishes ten- dered and solicitude shown, Among those was a response to a telegram by former President Wilson. None of the messages wer) made public, Reducing City Expenses GLENROCK.—The fore part of the week Mayor Anson decided that the night marshal job could be dispensed with and go Marshal Clarence Bishop was relfeved of Hils duties. The pres- sent city fathers ere trying in every way possible to cut the expenses of the town and to get it out of debt if it {s possible, and in order to do this they are cutting expenses wherever possible. It is hoped that {t will not be found necessary to put on a mar shal at night again as this will re- duce the city’s expense $150 per month. ‘Pho present administration {s mak- ing big strides in reducing expenses and putting the city in better finan- cial condition. For the first time a sinking fund for retiring city bonds has been made and the funds regu- larly put therein, so that they can be used for no other purpose. Recently |this fund reached the $4,000 mark and bonds for that emount of the first bond issue were called in and paid off, This is a pretty good record | considering that the city had a great deal of indebtedness when the pres- ent administration took charge of af- firs, If the town's affairs are con- tinued in the present manner for the next three or four yeara the city will This noted a pulse of 116; tempera-be in an excellent financial condition.
