TO- RESISTANCE OF THE PATHFINDER DAM Alarmist reports regarding the safety of Pathfinder dam in connec- tion with recent floods are discredit- ed by all those familiar with the big reservoir west of here on the Platte river. Flood waters cannot raise the level of the water in the reservoir, since the latter is filled to capacity every year. Surplus water goes over the spillway and the strength of the dam has long since been tested to the limit of the strain that can be Placed against it by flood or the natural impounding of water, ection coed Dea 2ey Gompensation Change Urged WASHINGTON, July 25.—A brief advocating the placing of disabled for- trer service men on a permanent com- pensation basis and abandonment of the present system of examinations e 90 days was filed with Director Hines of the veteran’s bureau by the disabled American veterans of the world war. CONTESTANTS IN ARKEON BEAUTY RACE ARE CLOSE The official tabulation of votes cast late Moneny night and last night in the Arkeon’s “Most Beautiful Gir! in Casper” beauty contest had not been completed up until a late hour last night and consequently the of ficial count can not be announced until sometime Wednesday. Up until 12:30 o'clock this morning the count showed the candid@ies run- ning neck and neck, first one con testant and then another jumping into the lead. Because no free blocks of 25 votes were given away last night, those who were present at the Arkeon on Monday evening and had their friends working for them, nat- uarally had somewhat of an advan- tage even in the count early this morning. But with the contest of the Arkeon onty two days old, !t would be red! culous to consider the present leaders as the winners. The advantage of having a photograph on the beauty contest board was plainly shown in the balloting of the first two nights. It {s an easy matter: to pick a favorite after seeing the photographs, especial. ly for strangers in the city, For each dance ticket sold 10 votes are givan away absolutely free In other words a dollor’s worth of dance tickets en- titles the holder to 100 votes to cast as he sees fit The count at an early hour this morning indicates the following lead- ers in the contest, with the remaining 690 or more candidates so close on their he’s that one evening's voting might change the result: Margaret Angle, Lucille Belky, Helen Brown, June Tyler, Jonan Beech, Eileen Davis, Jeanette Sher- wood, Mildred Gardenr. Madeline Quinn, Margaret England, Gertrude Kirkman, Ethel Hudson, Peggy Han- cock, Peggy Hicks, Adeline Gllborne, Arline Beech, Isabelle McGrew, Viola Locks, Margaret Leary, Mae Ross, Ethel Warwick, and Nettie Watson. The order of the candidates in the above lst does not indicate their standing in the race, but it shows that these were among the leaders as far as the count had progressed. By Wednesday night the manage- ment of the Arkeon hopes to have the official canvass completed to dhte so that the standings according to votes, can be announced in the Trib une on Thursday night. ‘The management of the Arkeon wishes to make it clear that every one Medium Brown’ Hatr Icoks best of all after a Golden Glint Shampoo.
