Alaska until Thursday, July 6, at ON RECORD TOUR ___ Continued from Page One.) be more or less of a political tour and that the president, through the speeches he planned to deliver going and returning from the coast, pro- posed to make a bid for support both for renomination and re-election. These reports caused the president to tell callers ehortly after his return from Florida that he would forego the trip rather than make it as a political figure. The reports subsided and the presi- dent finally decided to make the trip after abandoning an earlier pian to return overland, with speeches en- route, in favor a return by water through the Panama Canal and by way of Porto Rico. Approximately only a third of the President's trip will be made by rail on the special train of ten cars leav- ing here today. The voyage to and from Alaska will be made on the naval transport Henderson, and the yoyage from San.Diego to New York will be on two shipping board vessels. The next two weeks are to be sent almost altogether on the train, as the presidential party will not embark for & lity Rheumatism is gone-” = Tr HERE are thousands of you men and women, just like I once was—slaves to rheumatism, muscle pains, joint pains, and hor- rible_ stiff- ness, I had t ‘wrong idea about Apes su that increas- in blood- cells had the effect of Completely knocking ont rtheu- matic impurities from the system. The more economical, y Taryn Best ibe Tacoma, Wash, The first scheduled stop of the presidential special is at St. Louis late tomorrow, with a seven hour visit planned for that city and with the first of the president’s formal ad- dresses there tomorrow night. It ‘was considered more than prboable when the train left, here today, that the president would open the speak- ing portion of the trip with gaat ps more rear platform addresses bef arriving in St. Louis. To permit rear platform addresses to large crowds, special voice amplify- ing apparatus has been installed on the president's special car. This ap- paratus will carry the voice of a speaker so as to reach all in a crowd as large as 25,000 persons, whereas rear platform addresses in the past usually have been heard only by a narrow circle about the rear of the train. The amplifying equipment consists of three pick-up microphones held in sockets attached to the rail- ing of tho reer platform of the pres!- dent's private car. The president will not need to speak directly into any one of these, as they are so sensitive they will recelve sufficient sound even at a distance of elght or ten feet. On top of the private car, at tho rear end, are five projectors through which the amplified voice of the president will be delivered to the audience, The sound coming from the projectors will be about 1,000 times as loud ag the president's voice itself, f At the various large meetings, whether indoors or eut, at which the president will speak another form of the public address amplifying system will be used. Through this device the remotest seat in an auditorium or the most distant persons in an outdoor crowd will be brought within clear range of the speaker’s voice. When used out of doors the system is cap- able of magnifying the speaker's voice up to ten thousand times and will readily carry to several hundred thousand persons, When ini @n auditorium, a much ir de- gree of amplification is sufficient. rs Salvation Army Is Not To Be Confused People representing what ts known as the Christian Army have been soliciting funds in Cosper, according to @ report yesterday, It ts under- Atood that some people think they are contributing to the Salvation Army when they give the members of the other organization.
