he Casper Daily Cribune ‘SEE EDDIE” OF “SEE DOC” ARE MOTTOS OF TWO FIGHTERS Kane and Kearns Are Bosses Around Camps of Contender and Champion at Shelby—Gibbons Upsets Dope on Towel Swinging. SHELBY, Mont., June 11.—One boss is enough in any fam- ily. The same goes for the boxing ring. Both Tom Gibbons and Jack Dempsey follow this system. When you ask Gibbons about any little matter his reply is —‘See Eddie.” When you ask Dempsey the lowdown on something his reply is—"See Eddie”. When you ask Dempsey the low- down on something his reply is— “See Doc”. The Eddie referred to Kane. Gfbbons’ manager. And the Doc referred to Is Kearns, Dempsey’s manager. Some fighters make the mistake of having too many men in their cor- ners. As a result they become con- fused and worry more between rounds thah when out there in No Man's Land doing the real business. Neither Gibbons or Dempsey £0 strong on towel swinging. Gibbons was the first boxer in the country to upset the dope that a fighter had to be cooled off between innings. He has figured the towel angle out along scientific lines. His arguments are: You blanket a race heats. Baseball pitchers put sweaters on their throwing arms between innings. No fighter can collect his thoughts with wild man snapping a towel in his face. The object of the one minute rest is to REST. ‘The way some boxers are handled while in their corners they deserve a lot of credit for the showing they make for they actually undergo more torture in their corners than out front and center. is Eddie Doc horse between Gibbons puts a towel over his shoulder and relaxes. His manager, Kane, doesn't do much talking. What they say counts. Gibbons an uncanny spot-picker. He isn’t in the ring long with an opponent before he knows where the weak spots are in the line like a quarterback on a football field. Just where Dempsey's weak spots are has never been determined. No opponent ever extended him unless it was old Bill Brennan. Brennan stayed six and twelve rounds re- spectively with the champion. There seems,to be a hunch going round that Gibbons won't come up for the seventh round in the Shelby battle on July Fourth. ‘Where that hunch comes from nobody knows exactly. What a jolt that crowd will get if Gibbons {s in there at the end of 15 rounds or, something else happens in his favor before they sing that verse. Of all the contenders on the band- fagon just now Gibbons is just the fellow who may do it. Club Standing 610 BAT 271 American League.
