When Spring brings new life to the trees and paints the ground green the world seems to reek in the new atmosphere—so different from that of bleak winter. A couple of summers ago we decided to screen tn our front porch and have a summer lving room where we could read of evenings without being bothered with bugs and fed on did most of the work myself and the expense was smatl, Soon after this, Fred and wife and baby were over one evening and they were “just dying’ to have thelr porch screened in—it would be so nice for the baby! I sai¢, “Well—why don’t you do it—it won't cost much." And Fred wearily repl'ed, “You don’t suppose for a minute that I'd spend my money to screen-in that old boy’s porch and then have him raise our rent or tell us to move do you?” White I came back with: Then get him to do it for you.” Fred sneered: “No chance—I mentioned {t to him and he told me nothing doing, that it would cost over $100." I couldn’t let the chance pass to remark. ‘Well Fred, if you had your own front porch you could screen it in or not. just as you pleased—and if you wanted to do the work yourself {t wouldn't cost you as much as you are paying each month for rent.” But Fred wasn't inclined to discuss the matter— he never is any more!
