FRIDAY, JANUARY 12, 1923. DRIVE AGAINST PAGKER ACT (6 OPENED TODAY Maine Solon Would Strip it of Appropriation for é Enforcement. ; WASHINGTON, Jan. 12.—An en- deavor to nullify the packer regula- tion act of 1921 through elimination of the .$410,000 appropriation for its enforcement in the pending depart- ment of agriculture supply bill was made in the senate by Senator Fern- ald, republican, Maine. Senator Fernald declared the law ‘was unnecessary, wasteful and in- furious to the farmers and had been passed “because congress had an idea some one should be punished.” The act was defended by Senators Kend- rick of Wyoming. Caraway of Arkan- sas, Simmons of North Carolina, democrats, and others. »Benator Fernald referred to the re- eently proposed Armour-Morris con- solidation and said the packer act had done nothing to prevent it. The act, he added, had merely given jobs to “six deserving republicans.” LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE OF STATE LEGION MEETS CHEYENNE, Wyo., Jan. 12.—The executive and legislative committess of the American Legion, Department of Wyoming, are meetinz in Chey- eenne to consider reqgommendations to the legislature, Tomkin of Cheyen: Commander A. 1, Do you want a smooth, velvety skin radiating with health and a natural rosinessP Most certainly you do, and you will have such a skin if you read every word of this advertisement and act accordingly.
