Williams Addresses Voters The Casper Sunday Morning Herald »f October 29, on page three, carries a news article about a public meeting where alleged property owners and business men met to decide who should be the various coun- cilmen that should sit on the Casper City Council aft- er January 1, 1923. If such a public meeting was held, why do not the individuals who have decided by themselves that they——not the people—are the electorate, sign their names to the article, so that the people may know who these mighty personages are? That they can, by their voice, set aside the necessity of an election at the polls. They have the audacity and unmitigated gall to tell the people living in Ward No. 1 that they cannot be allowed to decide for themselves who shall represent them on the city council, but that they will let the matter of a councilman in Ward No. 3 largely, but not wholly, rest in the hands of the individual voters. This meeting ordered the selection of J. W. Burns in Ward No. 2, a Citizens’ party candidate, in Ward No. 3 they state that an effort will be made to get either Lloyd or Pelton to withdraw, so that a stronger fight can be made against Seidel. VOTERS—We want to call your attentio® to this article—study it carefully—and note that every can- didate endorsed has filed his petition under the name of the Citizens’ party, and that every candidate con- demned belongs to an opposing party. Don’t Fall for Fhis Political Bunk This meeting was nothing more or less than a gath- ering of the supporters of the Citizens’ party and they are trying to pull the wool over your eyes with their sanctimonious air and their unlimited x Think of it—hand-picked councilmen, not } ers of Casper, but by a few who dare intelligence and right to decide polls on election day, » of Ward No. 1 No. 1 and are property owners there. These colored men are highly representative of their race—minis- ters and high officers in their lodge circles—and | am Proud to have the public know that they endorse my candidacy. - The colored vote elected our present mayor and it strikes me at the time of election, he was very glad to be able to secure their support. I am reliably in- formed that men high in our present city govern- ment referred to these colored folks, who were among the ‘signers of my petitions, as “good-for-nothing nig- gers.” I denounce this individual as un-American * and not fit to hold public office. Tho colored folks have a big representation in Ward No. 1 and are en- titled to fair and equal treatment as citizens—and if x am elected, I am going to see that they get it in my istrict. The present administration of city affairs is a joke of the Stats of Wyoming and many surrounding states—they get along like a lot of wildcats. Let Mr. Whisenhunt step forward and demonstrate on what grounds he is entitled to re-election. he done beneficial to Ward No. 1? There are many hard-work- ing, good citizens on this so-called bar and they also resent the insult.
