MARQUIS For Sheriff REPUBLICAN TICKET PRIMARIES, TUESDAY, AUGUST 22 In the last 11 months a total of $12,000 has been collected in fines from vio- lators of the prohibition laws in Natrona County and this amount has been paid into the county treasury. This is almost three times the amount collected in any two years here since the passage of the Volstead act. In the same period 40 criminals have been sent from Natrona County to the state peni . Thoroughness on the part of the sheriff’s office in obtaining evidence resulted fn all but four of these criminals pleading guilty. This saved the county a huge expense. Many of these men were classed with the worst characters- known to the police and detective agencies of the country. Letters on file in the sheriff's office show that the closest harmony and co-op- eration have prevailed between the Natrona county officials and the department of shee, the narcotic agency and the federal and state law enforcement depart- ments. The lo pieeelles pe, pons ae property pat been the watchword of the de- partment an e highest moral standards of the community have been tu- ated insofar asthe sheriff's office was able to.accomplish it. toa The statement of Sheriff Marquis to those whose support he seeks at Tues- ‘day’s primaries is as follows: “In these days when hearsay is accepted without investigation; when the terms ‘ring’ and ‘graft’ are used thoughtleasly or maliciously; when it is easier to criticize a law enforcing officer than to dig in and help him, the burdens of a sheriff are Sscably arduous. In seeking the nomination for sheriff on the Republi- can ticket I stand squarely on my official oath for the enforcement of law fairly, eyuitably and effectively. I stand for those moral standards which will make Casper and Natrona County attractive to the best citizenry of the land. I am bound by no promise, subservient to no ring, class or creed. I am free to serve both county and city and eager to do so.” This Advertisement Paid for by Friends of J. L. Marquis.
