WEDNESDAY, JULY 19, 1922. -FRLUND-DUSHEK MAT B SHERIOAN SENSATION TO MEET KENTUCKY PHENOM: Legion Post to Promote Championship Match Early in August Clarence Eklund of Sheri- dan vs. Rudy Dushek of Ken- tucky! The wrestling fan will) thrill at prospects of witness- ing a match bitween these two stars of the mat game and its realization the first week in August appears assured. The George Vroman post of the American Legion has se- oured the promise of Clarence Eklund to appear here that week and the se- curing of a suitable opponent for him is the only problem now facing the promoters Dushek, the man who has been picked as EXklund's probable opponent, 1s consideref the most promising of American light heavyweights and a match between him and Eklund would be a treat for any ringside crowd. If negotiations to secure Dushek fail, either Ted Thye of Portiand, Ore., or Mike Yokel of Salt Lake City will be substituted. Either is able to hold his own with the best of his clags, and both have expressed a desire to come here. Eklund 4s the most sensational light heavyweight wrestler since the days of Farmer Burns and the great Freddy Beal. Ho has drawn packed houses at Sheridan for the last four years and efforts have been made repeatedly to bring him here. The guarantee asked by the upstate champion has heretofore been out of reach of pro moters here but the Legion post has prevailed upon him to accept a per- centage which will allow them to t>ing another near champion here. A record breaking “crowd is pre- icted for the event if plans go through as scheduled and the wrest ling game will once more spring into popularity here. GOLFTOURNEY RECELTS HIG Over $15,000. CHICAGO, July 19,.—Kenesaw Mountain Landis, baseball commis- sioner, took a look at the papers today and learned, to his surprise, that Ty Cobb was giving George Sisler a des- perate fight for batting honors of the American league. e “Cobb batting .406; ‘Sisler .420; Cobb gota five hits in one’ game, including a home run,” read the commissioner. “Ain't it a shame about poor old man Cobb?” Landis said. “They said he was slipping and ready for the home for the aged. “Five hits in one game—one a homer,” mused the former federal judge—“‘and this after 17 years in the finish.
