Independent steels chemicals and several of the motors were lower by fractions to 1 point but rails were not perceptibly depressed by latest aspects of the strike situa- tion. People's Gas was conspicuous among i> utilities for its two point gain and (.~tral Leather, Coca Cola and Famous }‘xyers were moderately higher. Foreign exchanges were steady and continuance of vasterday easy money rates was expected. Mexican Petroleum suffered an ex treme loss of 2% points during the morning. Kindred shares, as well as several of the domestic ofls were 1 to 2 points lower; seliing embraced the independent steels, high grade equip- ments, Studebaker, American Can, American Zinc preferred, Davison Chemical, and Pacific Mail at declines of 1 to 2 points, with 2% points loss for Western Union. Aside from the heaviness of St. Paul preferred Wheeling and 1xe Erie preferred and Western Pasific preferred, rails were relatively steady. Consolidated Gas People's Gas, United Fruit and Stand ard Oil of California, were among, the few comparatively strong stocks, Call money opened and renewed into next Week as 3 pir cent. Cessation of pressure against the oil group and concerted buying of vari- ous popular industrials caused a brisk advance in the afternoon. Declining money, rates, the notable strength of Uberty’ bonds and the duliness of rail- Toad stocks, despite the: un-ertaintles of the labor situation promated rath- er more general buying for both ac- counts.
