MUDDY LOSES North Field Aggregation Piles Up Score of 8 to 1 in Parkerton Game. Playing ® snappy brand of baseball the Salt Creek gas plant team won an 8 to 1 victory over the Big Muddy aggregation at the Parkerton grounds Sunday afternoon. Although the Salt Creek was out- hit, they came under the wire winners due to bunching their hits off Her- rington, Mnddy’s first pitcher, and taking advantage of his wildness. Stevenson replaced Harrington on the mound in the fourth inning and allow- el only \three hits, retiring the enemy in-one-two-three order in every inning after the fifth. His work was a re velation to the Muddy fans and fore bodes great things for future games. The Salt Creek boys played an un- veatable game, keeping on their toes every second and being quick to take advantage of every miscue of their opponents. While they had no indi- vidual star, the pitching of Phillips was the sort that wins ball games. Fleming, the Muddy cenécr ficider, was both the hitting and fielding hero of the day. He scored three hits in four times at bat and made four sen- sational catches in the field. playing their best brand of baseball eee ee be wrasually keen. Score REE. June 13.—Swim- ming as a means‘for reducing those who are too heavy, and for increas- ing the weight of those who are too light, is advocated by Pete Wendell, director of swimming at the Omaha Athletic club. Coach Wendell, who ts 2 member of both the championship and rules committees of the Western Amateur Athletic union, and also of the Na- tional Swimming Instructors’ asso- ciation of Pittsburgh, Pa, is con- ducting a campaign to encourage greater interest in swimming. For women he is advocating the water sport not only as a means of reducing but as a means of obtaining better form. Diving he describes as “that de- lightful deasert of aquatic sports,” in urging it as a method for de- veloping muscular control. Probably the most popular stroke being taught in Coach Wendell’s classes is the modern trudgeon crawl. This stroke, according to the coach, is the easiest ‘to mar‘er and he declares that a swimmer travels faster and farther with it than with the older styles. Coach Wendell describes the stroke as similar to the old overarm stroke, inasmuch as the arms are lifted alternately Club Standings National. League. Ctub. Won. Lest. Pet.
