Even this activity extended over a period of little more than a menth does not entirely represent the suc- cesses of the county law enforcement agencies as a number of actions, i cmding many lquor and dope cases, were turned over directly to the fed- eral authorities after the cases had been worked up and arrests effected here, *The record of activity is conclu- sive,” said Mr. Pureell. “The far- reaching range of crimes and consist- ent. upholding of law and order is ‘Dut an introduction to the sweep that we are jointly pushing to rid Casper and Natrona county of violations of all kinds, “We have never fafled to proceed in any case that we have had called to our attention and we have always had the utmost success and close co- operation in our dealings with Sheriff Marquis and his force.” It is'worthy of note that conviction on gambling and liquor cases in dis- trict court was a thing almost unheard of here before the advent of the rig- erous prosecution which Mr. Purcell uses in combatting violations of this} Kind, The day of taking an appeal) from lower courts with knowledge that the case could not be success- fully prosecuted has passed, is Mr. Purcell"s belief. “In getting a lst of convictions,” he said, “never once, to our knowl- edge, have we treated a defendant unfairly. “We have not railroaded cases for the sake of getting convic- tions, but we have prosecuted fear- lessly where we krew there was breach of law.” [SATURDAY NIGHT Tues., ‘Wed. and Thurs.
