For the railroads, which were given the open ing argument, Henry Wolf Bikle of the Pennsylvania system declared that the evidence had proved that a gen eral rate reduction was impoasible. | Resting his argument on the section |of the transportation act which fixes o |six per cent return as reasonable, Mr. Bikle said the earn 1921 amount their investment and that, consider. ing only the last six months of 1921, when wage decreases and other do- creased operating expenses were ef- fective, the earnings were 4.49 per cent. “The showing ts that while expenses of railroad operations have been to some extent diminished,” Mr. Bikie said, “they have not been diminished to such an extent as to permit further general reductions in rates, unless these reductions are preceded by re- duction in wages.” French Dispense With Consent Of Parents to Wed PARIS, March 10.—Citizens of France upon reaching the age of 25 hereafter may marry without obtaining consent of their parents.
