The buildings destroyed were owned by A. W. Phillips, R. R. Mit chell and A. M. Knapp.. R. H. Hess, Proprietor of the Oasis, and his wife, who were asleep on the second floor of the building, occupied by the cafe, were rescued by neighbors who were awakened by the explosion. Hess re- turned to the building in an effort to save some property and was blown through a window by a second explo- sion, He sustained severe burns and a fraciure of the kneecap. The ex- plosions are supposed to haye been caused by gasoline. Link's counsel contends that inasmuch as the police acted without warrant, they should have not been permitted to present evidence alleged to have been obtained by iHlegal means.
