NOBODY ing season yesterday by walking 15 miles through the hills in this vicin- ity. Occassionally he would make short swift sprints to test his wind and endurance. So successful have been his efforts to acclimate himself here that he be- eves that in future he will always follow the training program he mapped out here. Afraid at first to engage in too strenuous work for fear that it would endanger his chances of being in first class shape, Howard worked out Ught program and he reports that he marvelled at the fact that the light training seemed to improve his wind, permitted him to pick up weight where he needed it at the same time relle ing the necessity of constantly sap- ping his strength. When Howard meets Taylor tonight {t will be a different Howard than’ met Taylor a year ago. The Baker, Ore., boy hasn't learned much more about the game than he knew before, but he bas learned how to get him. self in shepe for a match at this alti- tude. Howard is essentially what is term ed a leg wrestler. He differs from ‘Taylor in this respect that Giagt Jack confines about 90 per cent of his as- sault to arm holds and punishment. ‘The visitor thinks that his leg holds will be able to offset Taylor's tre- mendous tulk of arm and shoulder. Ty addition to this is the«fact that Howard is a wrestler of the Caddock type always exhibiting while on the mat a nervous energy that guarantees action every moment. It is well to remark also that Howard is possibly one cf the best wrestlers of the Cad- dock style in the world, Taylor closed a_ strenuoys, training grind here yesterday. He thinks that hie wilt have no more trouble/in beat- ing Howard than he had when they met a year ago. He does give Howard credit for being a good man, however, and has conditioned himself with this thought {n mind. In addition to the main event George McLeod who is promoting the event has arranged a good prelimi- nary program. The chief interest in the early events lies in the four round battle between Danny Cummings and Kid Ross. Both these boys are in good shape to definitely settle \thelr differences ‘jand to establish which of them can |elaim the featherweight honors here. Tickets will be moved from the Smokehouse to the Iris theater this evening. The advance seat sale is said to have been the heaviest with but one exception.
