Golden Eagle Inactive. Work in drilling the Golden Eagle dome in the vicinity of Thermopolis is temporarily suspended but the manufacturing of by-products of the gas lease is going ahead at a rapid ~ pace. Pthe Midwest company, which has been drilling jointly with the U. S Oi and Gas company on the W yo, ming-Yellowstone ground at G. Eagle dome, hes asked for and se- cured an extension of time until April 1 next. This does not by any means indicats that the hunt for ofl there has been abandoned. The temporary shut-down is caused by the difficulty in controlling the great flow of gas ‘The present depth of the well is around 3,000 feet. A rotary drill will be installed to continue work in the spring, as by that method the gas c be mudded off and the hole sealed as drilling pro- ceeds. Faith in the presence of a great oll pool below the gas is as strong as ever, but the flow of gas has presented a difficult problem to overcome. It is stated by those in position to know that the Golden Eagle gas well is the biggest in the world. 1t is cer. tainly larger than the Ohio's big well at Buffalo Basin, which has hereto: fore been conceded to be the premier gasser. The gas pressure at Golden Hagle is nearly three times as great as at Buffalo in. : Until this gas can be piped to Ther mopolis for domestic and commercial | purposes, the oMly use to which it can be put is the manufacture of carbon black, and to use it all for that pur- pose would require an immense plant The Wyoming-Yellowstone now has 14 houses running 24 hours a day| arben back, and the| Midland Carbon company will soon manufacturing erect and operate one unit.
