The first hard luck which attended the fight cards was the @ecessity of postponing the Saturday afternoon event because of cold weather and rain. Possibly the best card that has been staged so far came Saturday night with Eddie St. Clair of Casper, and Speedball Hayden of Columbus. N. M.. in the main event St. Clair following his regular style carried the fight to Hayden from the minute the gong tapped but his clever and more experienced opponent gave ground readily and adopted a course of trying to outpoint St. Clair. Whert the Casper negro phenom learned that Hayden's blows lacked the nec essary sting to bring a quick verdict he threw caution to the wind and attempted many times to get a one punch knockout. For ten rounds the battle raged this way. There was plenty of action and apparently the referee's decision of a draw was not well received, Under the circumstances, St. Clair carrying the fight, but being outpointed by the de fensive boxer there could have been no other verdict. © Billy Williams ‘of Denver and Jack O’Brien of Salt Lake put up a hard ten-round fight with neither having the advantage. O'Brien's gameness again served him in good stead and enabled him to win a draw Frankie West beat Kid Corona in ail the latter half of their ten-round session and apparently should have had a decision. The boys battled hard for ten three-minute rounds and both were bleeding freely before the fight was well under way, West's willing: ness to take a punch to land terrific rights and lefts earned him the favor of the crowd and the potential victory. Johnny, Griffith and Sammy — Ter- rain, the former well. known to fight fans of the country a contender for the welterweight championship ot the world and the latter known in St Paul as a Willing battler and a hard puncher, went ten rounds yesterday afternoon. Griffith took an early lead and spec tators were of the opinion that Terrain would not last ten rounds. The St Paul. boy took everything that Grif fith had to offer for awhile and then evened up the fight with crashing right hand punches in the final rounds. The verdict of draw was pop ular. Frankie West, appeared against Young Foritana of Cheyenne in a six-round opener yester and again his hard puriches nearly won him a verdict. Both boys were battling evenly at the gong, however, and a draw verdict resulted. Kid Bell and Young Sam Langford both colored lightweights. went hard for a few rounds of their ten-round bout but the strain told and Lang ford had a hard time taking a decision, Bell reversed his tactics yesterday and decided to beat Langford by play ing for body punches. This attack necessitated a shift from Langford and the fight was tame for several rounds. In the latter part of the fight, however, Langford took the lead and had Bell all but out at the bell. Langford earned his decision It took Kid Lee but three rounds to put Cyclone St. Clair of Omaha, in slumberiand last night. The Oma battler had no chance with Kid Lee and knockdowns in thé first and sec. ond rounds merely forecast the knock out finish. Lee had everything and used it forcibly.
