———————— om PAGE EIGHT EARLY MAILING | ONLY SOLUTION. P,Q, EFFICIENCY Volume of Business Steadily In- creasing at Casper Office and Co-operation of Public | Is Urged | With the present accommodations at the postoffice it will be impossible horities to accom: for tho postal ai modate the tremendous volume of business that goes through the office unless the people of Casper cooper ate with the postal authorities In an mmiling campaign. according to statement of Edwin M. Bean, the new acting postmaster Letter mail bas grown by leaps here during the past few weeks and gt this time the average number of letters handled in outgoing mail is in excess of 10,000 a day. pe figure for yesterday was 13,097 ¢ clasc mail packages. The necessity for early mailing is seen in the fact that 75 per cent of the mail handled ts deposited in the boxes here between the hours of 4:30 and 8 o'clock. In this period yester- day §,621 letters were mailed. ‘Accommodations for the dispatch of mail permit only three clerks to work on outgoing matter. It is a physical impossibility for three men to handle §,000 letters and other pieces of first class mail in a little over three hours. ‘The only solutior. of ihe matter will be early mailing Business houses here are urged to deposit part of their mail around noon so that the mail decks can be cleared on the afternoon trains. A change in time of departure of the Burlington train is also adding to the confusion. Effective May 29 train No. 30 will arrive at 8:10 instead of 0 and leave at 8:35 instead of 9.45. This change will necessitate the post- ing of all mail here before 7 o'clock in the evening and will thus cut down the period for working mail to two hours instead of over thi2e hours. No force of clerks that could be accom- modated at the “postoffice could han- dle between 7,000 and 8,000 pieces of first class mail in the time allotted. ‘There are advantages in mailing first class mail for the afternoon Bur- lington train that is to be forwarded to eastern or western centers. A let- ter leaving here on the afternoon train for the east gets airplane serv- ice at Cheyenne. Letters leaving here on the-night train. don't get airplane wervice except at Omaha or Chicago. The early mailing saves many hours in the delivery. Quick collection service has been in- stalled here to give the people of Cas- per all the possible advantage of the early mailing campaign. Casper has co-operated with the postoffice depart- ment readily in the past and Mr. Bean is assured that the early mailing cam- paign will be advantageous to every- one and that the needed co-operation will be given. It is a temporary dif- ficulty in the dispatch department which will be remedied in part when the extensio:g; which are now under way at the postoffice are completed. WORTH GENTER AUTO REPAA SHOP 1 SOLD Daniel Lewis and D. G. Fox, both of Casper, have taken over the North Center Auto Repair company for- merly managed by Riley and Woods, and have plans for enlarging all branches of the business. Automo- bile agencies will be established with the company, second-hand cars will be handled and a full line of accessories will be carried in stock, it is an- nounced. The firm will also conduct @ general repair business. The proprietors are both experienced in the automobile business and have secured as their assistants C. E. Hahn of Sidney, Neb., and Harry E. Jones, recently of San Francisco, The lat- ter are expert mechanics. —_ Twenty-five Dollars Reward. J.
