RED CROSS CHL WORK WINNING FRENDS Civilian relief work for this com, munity, begun by the Natrona coun-, ty chaper of the Red Cross some time ago, has proved to be @ success under the direction of Mrs. Kittie Payne. Several families and individ haye been helped over the bad places by this rehabilitation plan. In ene case & man was found to be out of work. He had a wife and aix children. ‘The baby was sick and needed medi- cal attention. Immediately a doctor was secured and Miss Mary McPake, the, visiting nurse, was sent to the home, In a short time the child was well, the man had secured a position and the entire family was again happy and making progress. The county authorities are co-oper- ating with the Red Cross in a credit- able manner in doing this work for the destitute. In many cases a life at the right time will soon put destitute families and individuals on their feet and make them self-supporting, whieh {8 really the purpose of the civilian relief work. A careful reading is bespoken because the present writer lays no claim to particular literary distinction and also because the casual reader may not happen to be devoured, with desire for information concerning ¢hiropractic. i GETTING DOWN TO CASES ‘There exists a science'of drugiess combating of disease known as chiropractic. (Pro- Bounced "‘ki-ro-prak-tik.") There are .more.than ten thousand chiroprectors (practitioners of chiropractic) in the United States and Canada. . There are more thansten million individuals in the United States who have positive knowledge of the eMcacy of chiropractic as a health measure, either through personal experience-or- through having-seen the beneficial results of chiropractic among their fami les or friends. Chiropractic “delivers the goods.” Medical practitioners.do not like chiropractic or chiropractors. They aver that chiro- Practors are rocking the pathological and hygienic boat. 2 re, more medical practitioners at the present time than chiropractors. The uniformed génetal public, thinking that the more noise signifies the greater truth, are apt to.conclude that chiropractic, ad a remedial agent, is about on a par with essence of stewed angleworms and potted dog hairs, (It may here be relevant to remark that the Predecesrors of the present day medical practitioners sect. great store by the afore-men- tioned remedies.) It is the law that’all those who wish to minister, in a physical sense, to suffering humanity, should get perminsion, to do so from the sovereign state in which they reside Purveyors of patent medicine only are exempt from ‘this ruling, the which is balm to the galled. spirits of the bibulous sinte the Eighteenth Amendment was transferred to official papyrus. 2 Medical practitioners have so afranged matters that in orvier to get a license to practice any healing science or art, ay or ,otherwise, ‘the prospective. practitioner is com- pelled to pass “an examjnation the hands of a state board composed of medical practi- Uoners. While these efforts may or may not be a fagrant violation of the provisions of the Shorman anti-trust, law, nevertheless, as “Shorty” McCabe might say, “Chiropractors would stand & swell’ chayce,” Chitopractors want separate ‘bill authorizing and licensing them to practice. Chifopractors want a chiropractic board to conduct examinations and to issue authori- zations to practice. Chiropractors want standards tet’ up which will preclude the possibility of incompe- tent chiropractors practicing. At the present ‘time, about one-half \7 the states in the United States have passed a chirapractic bit, granting separate examinations to chiropractors at the hands of a chiro- Now, chiropractord want's separate chiropractic bill passed in those states which have .not as yet joined the procession: | At the present: time, chiropractors are practicing without licenses and without the Protection of law in many states. ‘There: tsa. public demand for their services and, by tacit consent: of everybody concerned, they. are allowed to practice. They are careful not to arouse the iré gf the medical men, and the medical men have adopted the simple expedient of denying the existence of chiropractors and being blind and deaf when in the Vicinity of any. placo~whée the chiropractic brand of Health is dispensed. BUT—as usual, the public is “the goat.’ ‘There are no set standards for chiropractors, so thatiit is entirely possible for the ‘most ignorant and untrained man to set himself up as a chiropractor in those states in Which chiropractic is not. legally recognized. Ths Public has no way. of determining: who is and who is not competent-to practice chiropractic, Chiropractors want to be themselves ‘protected and’ they also want to protect the public against injustice and fraud. E’ ABORATING- THE “IF” With the foregping facts én your possession, “you. will doubtless say, “Well, if chiro practic ‘delivers the goods,’ IF it is a worthy science, there-should be pxperienced no great dimculty in obtaining legal recognition.” This is a natural comment. ~The obvidiis thing to Gd fs"to set forth concrete examples of the efficacy of chiropractic, The Tollowing cabes are, therefore, brought forward with the consent and hearty approval of the individual ‘patients mentioned. They, are not, in.any sense, of the- word, ,“‘pieked” cases. “They are merely representative of-results being secured by chiropractors through- out the country, {> bse) | i - . Case.of Lieut. He recelVved:a short course of chiropractic adjustments—about @ dozen in all. He-recovered completely. . ‘ ¢ 25 Thus (did chiropractic restore a man after the best physicians in New York City had failed. 4 R t i» Case of) Adolph Huser of New. York City Adgiph“Huser was masteriatarms,on U. S. 8. Florida when it was sent to join the British fleet*in 1917. For-about a year after having arrived in uropean waters, Huser suffered from “pain, ‘in his feet. The pain became so intense that he could not walk. He tried electric treatments, , and so on, both from European physicians and from the ship’s doctors, but without benefit. He..was.sent_back.to. the ‘United. States because of his condition... Physicians at the Brooklyn Naval, Hospital took X-rays of his feet, but could find nothing wrong. They advised. local treatment, but it did not help. He decided to try chiropractic as a last resort.:* ' A chiropractic examination showed a very grave lumbar lordosis, or spinal curvature in the lumbar region, a displaced sacrum vertebras, and displaced ili, or hip bones. These caused pressure on nerye;trunks and ganglia which supplied vitality to legs and feet and brought about @ condition which affected the feet'in'much the same way as broken arches would do, although the, arches were anatomically correct. After a short -serles-of chiropractic adjustments, the trouble was entirely removed. That was almost three years\ago; he has’ had no trouble since. Thus did chiropracti= restore a man after electric treatments, massage, and so on, had failed and after physicians in both Burope and America had failed. WHY? "The above tases are indicative of thousands which might be quoted. They are presented not, so much of their, unusual character, from the chiropractic standpoint, but because théy show vividly the help which chirepractic was PREPARED to render in the late war. Chiropractors, not;being universally recognized legally, were not PERMITTED to help our soldiers, except'in scattered instances. > If space permitted, it would be of value to review at length the record of chiropractic in the influenza epidemic,of-1918,, Suffice it tosay here that the medical men lost seven- teen out ofjeach one hundred cases attended and that chiropractors lost one out of each eight, hundred and. eighty-six cases attended. The, medical men lost seventéen per cent; chiropractors lost about one-ninth of one per cent. The. proof here submitted shouid be ample to convince thé most,¢keptical that chiro- practic “delivers: the goods"—-that it is a worthy science. ‘WHY do the medical men oppose a law recognizing chiropractic as a separate science? (They ARE opposing it when they endeavor to insist on chiropractors passing an examina- tioniat thé hands of a medical board) ~~ WHY, isn't thére‘a Jaw in every state in the. Union recognizing chiropractic and in con- chiranpgepbrst 2 3 isn't the general public protected against incompétents who may put themselves forth’as being chiropractors? 4 Twenty-One States Now Have a Chiropractic Law ~ Drs.
