Discovery of the attempt to rob the store came when M. S. Kinney, credit manager of the institution made ‘his customary visit and inspec- tion trip through the store about 11 o'clock last. night. While sitting in the office, Mr. Kinney heard the robber remove a board from the stairway which would have permitted hin to enter the main storeroom. Mr. Kinney quietly in- formed the police that someone Was in the building and an investigation was started. ‘The would-be robber had effected entrance by breaking a glass in the skylight and shinning down to the upper floor of the building on a wire. After getting on the second floor the robber forced a doorway leading down the stairs to the main floor. Balked again in his attempt to gain entrance to the store, the trespasser started to remove boards from the stairway. Mr. Kinney intervened at this juncture. When the officers cpened the street door leading to the stairway the man made a getaway by the same avenue he entered the building. The tools which he used in his at- tempt to gain entrance came from the window trimming department on the second floor and were not carried to the building by the robber as was tirst hoped by the police. If such had been the case a definite clue as to the robber’s identity would have been Younded. Nothing was missed from the store building and the robber’s attempt re- sulted in only slight damage which was repaired by a carpenter today. ‘That it was the work of a profes: sional who knew the ropes of the building is said to have been gathered in evidence secured by the police. tie Saad as) > ~vanaa A kd) RETAIL’ CONCERN FAILS. assisting, I: is natural to blak at the ex- tant mother’s influence up- aig the unborn babe.
