The experience of Brice McElvaine, a young farmer of the Slater Flats certainly goes a long way to prove that when the right man gets on the right place, it may be a very decided success. McElvaine and his wife came to the Slater Flats nine years ago, both being then hardly more than thirty years of age. They possessed $1600 in funds, a pair of mules, one small mare, and a double seated carriage. They paid out $500 for the relin- quishment to a half section of land, upon which they proceeded to make a homestead filing. Then, figuratively speaking, they rolled up their sleeves and made the other necessary prepara- tions for bona fide labor and went at it with a will. No farmer in the surrounding country worked harder than they during the first years. At the same time they used their heads. By buying at comparatively low figures of other homesteaders who became discouraged with dry farming, they increased their hold- ings to 700 acres. Last year, when the land-buying fever was still high, McElvaine got HAVE COLOR IN CHEEKS Be Better Looking—Take Olive Tablets To have a Kosep pink eat bright ke" childhood ‘days, you must heed Repairing 913 PHONES 914 Coal and Coke Casper Supply Co. “rhe number of brain impressions| DRY FARMER OF SLATER FORTUNE IN NINE YEARS a | | have been highly detrimenta!, tc the reputation of the club and entirely in- consistent with your obligations to it.”” pet let Ean ain Scout Conduct on Visit to Telephone Exchange Praised The conduct of the Boy Scouts, who were guests at the telephone exchange here recently, certainly was a credit to their organization and training, ac- cording to Manager McCormack, who escorted them through the entire build- ing. Then he advertised a sale of all his stock, which ran the proceeds to over $50,000. In addition he marketed several thousand bushels of grain. But Mr, and Mrs. McElyaine were not yet ready to retire on their winnings. They bought another good farm in the neighborhood and started to build up another fortune winning proposition. As they are both in the prime of life, they can make several such fortunes, if they care to keep on mining the soil possibilities of Wyoming. HOT BATHS PARLOR CAR BARBER SHOP Also 8 Barbers. IT, — Zack Wheat, captain of the Brooklyn Na- tional league baseball club, who has been a holdout, has come to terms, it hate ae recent annual meeting of the Wyoming State Medical Society I was elected the ent 5 t One of the main points brought out at our meeting was the desire to see that the highest possiWfle standards of medical education were required for registration under any method by this state. Of course we have a state law—it has many fallacies—but even if it were enforced the public would be much better off. # a As it is today, we see in nearly all our cities the Chiropractor and various other cults flaunt- ing their signs “Doctor,” “Dr.,” etc., etc. They even sue to recover in the courts under the ‘name of “Doctor.” Evidence has been collected and put in the hands of the Attorney-General on these points ,I am told, but no action occurs._ It is so unreasonable that the legitimate doctor of medicine and surgery, after his years of labor and often privations in preparing to save the lives of the public, should be so slightingly considered that I am going to ask you, each of you, to put forth every effort you can in this. coming election of legislators to ascertain what legis- lator in your community is for the support of-higher medical qualifications and opposed to licensing such things as chiropractors to practice on the lives of the sick and injured. I will ask you to advise me at any time relative to any aid the legislative committee of your state’ society can give in your community. We have no respect for the politica] party to whom the candidates may belong. The slush fund of the cult’ desiring to become licensed as Doctor and not being a full M. D. will be met with the united action of your state society. It is up to you to take a little personal interest now and not leave it all to the committee to fight out in Cheyenne. y This is just a little notice that your State Medical Society is active. Wyoming has too long been a stopping place for the illegal practitioner of medicine. Chiropractors have no quarrel with the Medical Fratemity, in fact they have no desire to quarrel with anyone. However, if they are to be persecuted for doing good, then they must use some means of defense. Chiropractic is now recognized in many states of the Union, and inthe states where they have failed to get this recognition, their defeat has been due to the opposition of the Medical Puiensy: Chiropractors can get recognition any time they want it, if they will submit to MEDICAL examination, but why should they? do not iin any way practice medicine. If Christian Science Healing is not the practice of Medicine (and it is not) neither can the law be construed to make Chiropractic the practice of Medicine. ; The general tone of the first letter is of a iy ies character. The writer deplores the fact that the state law is not more rigidly enforced, that the Attorney General takes fo action against the Chiropractors, that the M. D. is treated so slightingly, and that more personal interest is not taken by the individual physicians. o, in the f sHesleg nga Mg it that heer ofa on are cay The resented by the legislature, judiciary, an press. why have the le of Wyo- i a and other states, not seen to it that the Medical Practice Act is pares ey pte hey recognize the glaring fact that it is class legislation designed to promote a certain group interest in restraint of trade, which is a violation of one of the first articles of our constitution, : ~ The second letter is so plain that no comment is needed.
