HIGHWAY BONDS VOTED BY STATE City Attorney Authorized to Pre- pare Suit Against Commission on Ground of “Pork” Discrimination DENVER, Colo., March 10.—Mayor Dewey C. Bailey of Denver today in- structed City Attorney James C.| Marsh to prepare a suit against the state highway commission enjoining the commission from issuing $5,000,- 000 in good roads bonds voted by the people of Colorado at the last general election. The mayor's action followed .a rec- commendation made to him by the Den- ver Good Roads board, which the} mayor appointed several months ago to investigate the subject. According to the mayor, ine will be taken because the city and county of Denver is paying one-third of the good road taxes of the state benefits from the bond issue. March 10.—The house of representatives of the state legislature today passed on third and final reading the bond highway Dill, abolishing the state highway commis- sion and providing for appointment of a highway engineer to supervise all| road matters. The engineer will have the assistance of the governor and attorney general. A salary of $7,500 a year for the engineer is provided. The bill contains a proviso that the engineer shall have five years’ expert- ence in building highways as a li- cenreé engineer in an executive capac- ity, The vote was 48 to 10. Repre- sentative Godsman changed his vote to the affirmative so that he could move for a reconsideration of the} measure. ————»__— The fact that a veteran who gets| and receiving no} | service man will not be eae by the Associated Press, according to | and correspondents, Legion at its second annual conyven- tion passed a resolution urging the press to adopt a similar policy. at ee | i RAIL STRIKE UNENDED. | | MEXICO CITY, March 11.--Settle- ment of thé railway strike, which for the past two weeks has seriously dis organized traffic in Mexico, has not been effected as yet.
