PAGE EIGHT Che Casper Daily Cribune SATURDAY, JAN. 29, 1921 410,000,000 GUBIC FEET OF GAS (CONSUMED HERE IN DECEMBER Total Growing Steadily and Amount Will Reach Half Billion Feet in January; Industrial Use of Gas for Fuel Is Increasing Few people realize the sudden growth that the natural gas production has made in the past two months due to the piping of this fuel to Casper by the New York Oil Co. state’s production of natural The gas was heretofore limited to the few cities and towns of the Big Horn Basin that were furnished with this fuel because the Midwest and Standard at Greybull had piped it prim ‘or their use in the plants at Greybull nd when Casper, commenced to use gas, the consumption figures climbed upwards with a bound. In December the New York Oil Co. delivered over 400,000,000 cubic fect of natural gas from the wells out in the Poison Spider district to this city. The sales for January will run well over. 500,000,000 cubic feet and on top of this tremendous growth the consump- tion continues to grow very rapidly. ‘The industrial plants are easily the largest consumers and the Midwest is probably the largest of these, this company tages a daily average at pre- sent of about 15,000,000 cubic feet. ‘The Natrona Power Co. has now placed the gas under several of its boilers and is only using fuel of! and other fuel under a few boilers, This firm takes about a million cubic feet per day and will shortly increase the consumption to nearly double this fig- ure. The Casper Laundry, Henning Ho- tel, Casper Ice and Storage and other business plants are running on this| fuel almost entirely and to date there are 700 domestic services installed in houses in Casper not counting the bus-| iness services for restaurants aud the} like in the business district of the city. Because of the need of a regular system for house piping work, the| company has organized a complete gas} fitting department which at present employs about 20 experienced men for this class of work alone, and who have been brought to Casper from other citles where they have spent time in learning the needs of natural gas piping. The distribution systern is working perfectly thanks to the employment} of the best engineers in this line that curred to date in the whole system of mains. The gas is brought from the field under a heavy pressure and this pressure is delivered into the city to certain points where regulators that work automatically are placed. These regulators cut down the heavy gas pressure of several hundred pounds to only a few ounces and deliver this low pressure to the city mains from which it feeds direct to the homes and business houses, These regulators are so built that when anything goes wrong, they immediately shut off all gas so that there is no danger from the gas suddenly failing in the night and then coming on again to cause trouble.
